Irene H. Garza

Irene H. Garza, 69, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on March 24, 2025. She was born June 29, 1955 in Premont, Texas, Irenes love of her family and of others is what made her such a special person. "Nene" to so many who knew her and loved her. She never hesitated to help around the community or with the church. As a mother of 7, grandmother of 14, great grandmother of 14, Irene was the Heart of the Garza family. Her kitchen was her favorite place, filled with so much love and laughter. Her tortillas were a family favorite especially among her grandchildren and great grandchildren, also known to Jace and Ava as grandma Portilla. She loved a good gossip, especially in her last couple of months. Her sick sense of humor kept us laughing even through her pain, I think at times she was more comfort to us more than we were to her. The strength she showed until her last breath is something we will never forget. She was blessed with amazing son in laws, who never hesitated to hold her hand, help turn her, give her a shoulder to cry on or just to make her laugh, her children and grandchildren allowed her to pull her strength from them and sat and prayed at her bedside as well as her sister. Her husband, who was her pillar, her love, her best friend and who will miss her dearly provided her the most comfort. The Legacy she leaves behind is what we will cherish always. She was the glue that will bond us forever. She was born to Raul Hinojosa and Inocencia De Los Santos on June 29 1955. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Teresa Cabrera.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Garza of Premont, TX, one son, Jose Garza Jr., of Illinois, six daughters, Yolanda (Logan) Wilson of Premont, TX, Lisa (Richard) Martinez of San Antonio, TX, Cynthia (Fred) Gutierrez of Premont, TX, Carmen (Bobby) Gonzales of Premont, TX, Brianna Garza (Roel Salas III) and Marissa Garza both of Premont, TX, one brother, Raul Hinojosa Jr. (the late Yolanda) of Premont, TX, two sisters, Anna Herrera of Premont, TX, and Leticia Vera (Mike) of Hebbronville, TX. 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM Thursday March 27, 2025 at the Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, TX. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Friday March 28, 2025 at the Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Premont, TX, burial will follow at Premont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Sergio Gutierrez, Rene Martinez III, Noe Diaz, Wilfe Herrera, Xavi Cabrera, Miguel Vera, Jordan Wilson and Ricky Vera. Honorary pallbearer, Jordan Garza
