AGE: 90 • Somerset

Irene D. Matysek, 90, of Somerset passed away at her daughter's home in Piscataway on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Born in Scranton, PA on June 7, 1922 to Andrew and Louise (Scarpa) Vanslovie, she lived in Bloomfield for many years prior to moving to Somerset nine years ago. Mrs. Matysek was a health aid at the Essex County Hospital for twenty-three years and was a volunteer at the Quailbrook Senior Center in Somerset.

Mrs. Matysek was predeceased by her husband, Eugene and her two sons, Robert and Richard. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Tancredi and her husband Kenneth of Piscataway, her brother, Jack Vanslavie and his wife Harriet of Freehold, her ten grandchildren; Lisa, Bobby, Debbie, Michelle, Laurie, Doreen, Michael, Marc, April and Nick. Irene is also survived by her twenty-two great grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 28th from 5 to 9pm at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30am at the Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, NJ. Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
