Irene Opposs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2014.
Irene Lorenzo Martinez Opposs, family nicknamed Moña, at 71 years of age passed away March 20, 2014. After a short but tough battle with an aggressive cancer, Irene passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love and her family. Irene was born in Burgos, Spain Jan 15, 1943, Daughter of Benedicta Martinez and Eduardo Lorenzo. Irene married Stanley Opposs, in England, on July 7th 1965. They came to the United States to continue her career in the fashion industry. Left behind to cherish her memory are daughter, Brigitte Milhous, Son-in-Law Nick, grandchildren Noah and Jordyn. Son, Anthony Opposs, Daughter-in-Law Amy, grandchildren Seth and Brayden. Sister Teresa, brothers Francisco (Isabel) and Eduardo. Nieces and nephews Anthony, Renata, Beatriz, Ruben, Alejandro, Ricardo, Eduardo, Maximo, Maite, Gloria, Raul David. Irene has now joined her parents, sisters Araceli and Hispana at peace in Heaven where we know she has already taken over and running the show. Irene's passion was clothing. Whether it was buying, altering, designing or selling it. She graduated from Fashion and Design School in England where she met her husband. In London she worked with some of the Royal Family, The Shah of Persia, Roger Moore and Sean Connery, to mention only a few. After moving to Iowa she spent many years providing custom tailoring for many individuals and stores throughout Ames and working at Olive's. Then she took a leap of faith and opened up Irene's Boutique, downtown Ames, where for 14 years she catered in a way only Irene could to women, from business attire to proms and weddings. In Ames she was awarded with Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2001 Irene and Stanley re-located to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in the City of Keller, where she worked with del Ann's until she retired. She loved to spend her days outside in the sun listening to nature, water, birds singing, sitting on the beaches of Spain, walking her dogs and enjoying a great espresso. Irene was always full of energy and laughing while with her grandchildren. Sunflowers and roses were always blooming by Irene's green thumb. Spanish paella, Spanish omelet, mussels, spaghetti and meatballs were just a few of her favorite dishes she enjoyed cooking for her family. Her churros were a family tradition at Christmas time. Technology didn't intimidate her in the least, she could always be found texting her children and grandchildren, playing candy crush or on Facebook keeping up with her family and friends. Anyone that was honored enough to be part of her life would describe Irene as a spunky, strong willed, passionate lady of the utmost class.
