Irene Remmen

Irene Alice Remmen (nee Hunter) May 4, 1926 December 15, 2007 Remember Irene when you are surrounded by the warmth of a loving family for, above all else, this is what she treasured. The family of Irene Alice Remmen (nee Hunter) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is saddened to announce her passing, which occurred peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Saturday December 15th, 2007. Irene is survived by Ivar, her husband, partner and best friend for the last 61 years. She is loved and will be missed by her children, Ray (Kerry), Gord, Larry (Doreen), and Barbara Remmen, and Val (Doug) Michasiw; grandchildren, Kari (Dewey), Tammy (Brian), Andrea (Brian), Laura, Bryan, Lane and Evan; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brooke. She is also survived by her loving sister, Yvonne (John) Nielsen; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Irene leaves us to rejoin her parents, Art and Laura Hunter, and Ivar's parents, Tom and Anna Remmen; her brother, Ray Hunter and sister, Lucille Durward. Irene was born and raised in Hanley, where she met and married Ivar Remmen. While living in Hanley, Irene was an active member of Eastern Star and a member of Hanley Lutheran Church. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1967. She was employed part-time at The Bay where she made many lifelong friends. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in many of the church programs, including Altar Guild and weekly Bible studies. Irene was an avid supporter of all her family's sporting endeavors and rarely missed an event, always being the number one fan. Irene's family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Brodie, Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Stakiw and the nurses and staff of Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital, where they made our family feel like their family. We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Phyllis Schatz and Addie Loomes, whose compassionate care supported our Mother in her home. Irene was blessed with many visits, calls, prayers and cards from family and treasured friends, and the outpouring of love that surrounded her gave her much comfort. We'd also like to thank past and present Pastors of Redeemer Lutheran Church: Pastor Bruce Ehlert, Pastor George Hind, Pastor Rodger Nostbakken and Pastor Hugh Farmer for their unending support through Irene's illness. A Celebration of Irene's life will be held on December 20th, at 1:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church (812 Preston Avenue).
