Irene Shymko Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2023.
Irene Louise Shymko, 78, of Sun City, AZ, passed away on August 21, 2023. She was born on December 21, 1944, in Ellwood City, PA, to Angela Marie Smilek and Anthony Richard Smilek. Irene was preceded in death by her parents.

Irene was warm, generous, and loving. She had a social and spirited nature, always bringing kindness to those around her. She will be remembered for her warm and caring nature, her love for her pets, and her dedication to spending quality time with friends. Gardening was also one of her passions, where she found joy and solace in nurturing plants and flowers.

Irene is survived by her sons, Gregory Michael Shymko and Christopher Paul Shymko, as well as her granddaughter, Peja Rion Shymko, and grandson, Nicolai Michael Shymko. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Strati, and her brothers, David Smilek and James Smilek.

In her professional life, Irene had a lengthy career in health care administration. She made significant contributions as a Medicare risk adjustment coding analyst with Univera Healthcare and previously as a Quality Manager with Kaleida Health. Her dedication and expertise left a lasting impact in the field.

A private service will be held in Irene's honor at a memorial forest in northern Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Arizona Animal Welfare League or a local Humane Society, organizations that reflect Irene's love of animals.

As we remember Irene Louise Shymko, let us cherish the memories we shared with her and celebrate the love and warmth she brought into our lives. May she rest in peace, forever loved.

My beautiful sister! We have been close even though she lived far away. When we were children I always watched out for her. She was so little and quiet
She was a beautiful person. She loved cats and dogs. All animals. She loved flowers and gardening
We were alike in those ways. Our mom and grandmother liked gardening and cats also. She was a devoted mom, she had 2 boys. We always called each other often.
Irene, you are my hero. So brave and calm. I will love you forever, my sister, till we meet again. Barb

We are saddened to learn of Irene´s passing. She was a delightful lady who was very kind, thoughtful, smart, and caring. It was always a treat to be in her company. May she rest in peace, and may her family take solace in Irene´s wonderful example of a life well lived. God bless her.

In the 70s, Irene and I live near each other for a couple of years. We became fast friends and raised our young children together, sharing the joys and troubles that a parent has.
I remember her as a warm, kind, and fun person and I know she will be sorely missed.
We lost track of each other through the years, but regardless of that, I am very sorry to hear of her suffering and subsequent passing.
May she find forever peace.

I lived near Irene in the early 70s in Taylor, MI. I remember her well. We both had 2 pre-school children and we shared thoughts and troubles along the way. They we moved and lost touch.
She was a kind, warm person and a trusted friend.
I am very sad to hear of her passing.
May she rest in peace.

While Irene's passing has left holes in both our hearts, we are heartened by knowing that her warmth, kindness, grace and spirit for life touched so many people during her time with us. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and her smile and laugh could light up a room like no one else. As we remember her and all our wonderful moments together, we know those holes in our hearts will be filled with joy, peace, and the warm light of memories that will never be forgotten. We hope you'll share some of your own with us.

Her loving sons, Greg and Christopher.
