Burial will be in Homer Cemetery at a later date under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton.
Visitation will be held at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Irene passed away Dec. 17, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Groton.
Irene Ask was born on April 1, 1920, in rural Pierpont to Rev. Casper and Laura (Moe) Ask. She attended school in Pierpont and graduated in 1938. She continued her education at Northern State College before returning to Pierpont. Irene was united in marriage with Joseph “Joe” Stolsmark on Aug. 10, 1941, at her grandfather's farm. Together they made their home on a farm near Pierpont. In 1954, they moved into town.
Irene was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Pierpont. She taught Sunday school and also served on the Board of Education at the church. She was active in Bible Study Circle and the Ladies Aid. Irene enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee, cooking and taking care of her family.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: JoAnn Zweber, of Groton, Roger Stolsmark, of Pierpont, Brad (Penny) Stolsmark, of Pierpont and Rod Stolsmark, of Groton; eight grandchildren: Kimberly Morgan, Kristin (Marc) Belanger, Paula (Brad) Krueger, Laura (Tom) Kaiser, Brodrick (Erin) Stolsmark, Nathan (Kirsten) Bertsch, Ian (Nichole) Bertsch, Jessica Bertsch; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce (Milton) Erickson, of Sioux Falls and Anita Stolsmark, of Langford.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Joe; her parents; two children, Leona and Orlo; one brother, Milton Ask; and her sister, Marian Tople.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Paula Krueger, Kimberly Morgan, Laura Kaiser, Kristin Belanger, Jessica Bertsch, Erin Stolsmark, Kirsten Bertsch, Nichole Bertsch and the staff at Golden Living Center.
Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Brodrick Stolsmark, Nathan Bertsch, Ian Bertsch Brad Krueger, Tom Kaiser and Marc Belanger.
