Born, raised and a long-time resident of Ben Avon and Ben Avon Heights was gathered home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 13, 2018 in North Palm Beach, Florida - seemingly aware of having lived a full, satisfied life and appreciative of his many blessings. He was the son of Paul S. Templeton and Lois (Newby) Templeton; the former husband of Barbara (Humes; Templeton, the mother of his children, Paul (Sandy Leiss) of Doylestown, PA, Lynn Maloney (Paul) of Mars, PA, and Rand (Julie Craft) of Ft. Worth, Texas. The present husband of Carole (Flagg) Templeton also of North Palm Beach; the brother of Patricia Whalen (Malachy) of Sewickley and Paula Templeton of Ben Avon; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and three new great-grandsons swell the ranks of the family. He spent his early years in the Ben Avon schools graduated from Shadyside Academy; journeyed on to Harvard University and afterward earned a degree of Dentistry from the University of Pittsburgh as his father had done several decades earlier. His career of practice in the North Boros covered almost four decades. "Sonny" was athletic and played football, but he also excelled in the shot put and discus. However, it seems that scuba diving and deep water activities held the most interest for him, resulting in his final move to Florida which proved to be a happy choice. He had a workout at the gym and a boat outing a week before his demise. Sonny was popular his entire lifetime he liked people and they returned it in full measure there will indeed, be a "vacant chair." Private memorial services to be held in Florida and a local service date to be announced.

Sonny was such a good friend of my dad’s, and always a pleasure to be around and converse with. He was more than twice my age at the time, but he went more than twice as hard at the gym at the City Club as I ever could. My mom happened to google him and saw he passed and told me. RIP Doc; may God bless you and your family ❤

Paul, Lynne and Rand:
I am deeply sorry to hear of Uncle Sonny's passing and truly embarrassed that I was not told of it until now. I was working on two projects in Gettysburg and Kernstown, Virginia in October so I didn't get the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. How Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's passed without it being mentioned, I just cannot explain. After all those years of sharing those holidays together, you would think that either Patty or Polly would have said something.
Well enough said on that. I will remember the family holiday meals with great fondness. As for the comment in the obituary on Uncle Sonny being a likeable guy, it hits the nail on the head. I doubt that I will ever meet a man as sincerely well liked as Sonny. When Malinda got married in Chicago, Sonny came out and we had a great time with him. People that never had met him before also came away with a great impression of him.
An all-round fun Uncle to all three of us.

Dr Templeton was my childhood dentist and a very good friend of my grandparents (David and Lorraine Smith). He was such a nice person and I always remembered him fondly. I used to tell my kids about how he swam with the sharks. We happened to be visiting family in Pittsburgh and I drove by his old office. Made me think of him so I googled him and saw he recently passed. Such a wonderful man. Prayers to his family.

Everyone's unique in a certain way. Sonny was unique in a lot of different ways. He left lots to celebrate and lots to mourn. One couldn't help but love the guy. He's up there snorkling while everyone else is saying the Rosary or playing the harp.

We were very sorry to hear of Dr. Templeton's passing. He was such a personable and well-loved guy. He was instrumental in helping me overcome my fear of having dental work done and for this I will always be grateful.
