Irving Farber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2024.
Irving Farber passed away peacefully from complications of Parkinson's Disease at the age of 94 on October 27, 2024, in Marina Del Rey, California. Born on October 18, 1930, Irving was a devoted husband, father, loving partner, and friend, known for his intelligence, loving nature, kindness, generosity, witty sense of humor and integrity.

Irving was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. As the son of immigrants, he held deep pride in his Jewish faith and his country. Irving's unknown claim to fame was that he sang on the radio when he was a young boy. He attended Boys High School in Brooklyn, NY, followed by New York University where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. His career was marked by a distinguished tenure as an Administrative Law Judge for the State of New York, serving first with the Department of Labor and later with the State Liquor Authority until his retirement in 1993. His military service was equally commendable. Irving served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War, where he saw combat, sustained injuries, and was honored with both a Bronze Star medal and a Purple Heart for his bravery.

Irving cared deeply for his mother, who was a young widow, and to protect her, he spared her from knowing that he was overseas fighting in combat during the Korean war. Irving's deep concern for his family continued throughout the chapters of his life as he became a devoted husband to his wife, an encouraging, supportive father, and loving life partner.

Irving's passions included history, reading extensively about historical events, and world travel. He took great interest in learning about other cultures. Irving was also an avid tennis player and enjoyed the theater and the arts.

Irving is survived by his loving partner Carol Sapin gold of Marina Del Rey, CA, his son, Matthew Farber, and son-in-law, Richard Bachmann, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his daughter, Dr. Nancy Farber Kent, and son-in-law, Dr. James Kent, of Carlisle, PA; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Ava Pomerantz, of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Farber; his parents, Sarah and Meyer Farber; and his brother, Joseph Farber.

A service to honor Irving's life will be held at the Gates of Zion Cemetery in Airmont, NY, at 1pm on Friday, November 1. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

I"ve been blessed with having Carol and Irv as my neighbors. Although he faced a long journey with Parkinson´s, he never lost the warmth and light in his eyes. when he was well enough he would come to our holiday gatherings. I´ll always remember how his eyes would light up as he soaked in the festivities-I think he fully enjoy the moment. I´m so grateful for those memories, and I know his spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Sending my deepest condolences to Carol and the entire family. Irv´s kindness and strength left an unforgettable mark. My heart goes out to each of you during this time of mourning, and I hope you find comfort in the many beautiful memories shared with him.
