Irving Gould

I've known Irving for almost as long as I've been in the lighting industry-14 years. Met him in person for the first and only time in '95-'96 at a representative meeting for the company I worked for.

After that, we frequently spoke on the phone about all sorts of lighting projects. He always had something going on. There are lighting installations all over Massachusetts that have his knowledge and influence in them.

He was alway ready to learn something. There was not a new technology out there he wasn't willing to try, including those pesky e-mail attachments and printing from a pdf file. He always took notes about how to plot a pdf file so he, "wouldn't have to bother me anymore. "

He had a sincere interest in others and was a great listener, always asking about you, your business, your kids, etc. before telling you what the newest project was and what he needed help with.

I will truly miss him-he was a sweet, stubborn man who loved life.

Irving was very special to me. I liked him a great deal.

In working with him he would switch between declaring me a genius, then an idiot, then a genius again. All in a matter of minutes. For him things worked or they didn't. Not a lot of grey area, but always a bright heart.

Irving shared freely. He told me stories of his life and lessons learned. He always marveled at the new things he came across. Each was an opprotunity anew. He was not stuck thinking in terms of the past but was always thinking of the future and how to make it better.

His passion for lighting was constant. His knowlege and experience was formidable. His accomlishments most impressive.

Most of all I remember Irving as a person who loved life and lived with honor every day. His word was his bond and honesty was everything.

Irving Gould was one of the most fascinating people I knew. I worked with him for 20+ years and knew him as a person who loved life and believed in enjoying it to the fullest whether working hard or playing hard. He had very high expectations of himself and never quit trying to give his all. He seemed to be doing what he loved and loved what he was doing. I will surely miss working with him! My heart goes out to his family.

The world always benefits from people who brim with passion and energy.... I am sorry for you irreparable loss.
