I was/am an admirer of Irving Younger who taught me more about certain aspects of the law than I thought possible.

It was an unlikely relationship. I, a Mississippi lawyer, who, at one time attended Cornell University solely for the purpose of listening to Irving whose knowledge and presentations on the law were more lucid and practical than any! So persuasive, in fact, that I once followed him to Cornell for the singular purpose of learning from him.

Such a loss! I am now 90 years old and slow to learn of things such as Irving's death. Nevertheless, devastated even at this late date. Learning about significant things such as this is never too late nor less significant! He was an important contributor to the profession and to helping others.......such as myself!

If you were Steven's friend, that means you were a friend to the universe, and it will by lacking in your absence. It will go on, but with you it would have been better.

Jordanna and Jared,
I think about your father and mother every time I am in Squirrel Hill and every time I go to the JCC. I knew both your mother and father. I remember how thrilled they were to have both of you in their lives. They fervently wanted to be parents. You two were their greatest joy.

I remember how bereft your father was when your mother died. He was devoted to her.

I met your parents at the JCC at a parents meeting for those of us who had children enrolled in the preschool. Then we would continue to see each other over the years because both of you went to the JCC after school program with my kids. You probably don't remember Sam Starsky and his half sister, Ellen Oanes. For a while Jared had a crush on Ellen. Your parents and I would joke and laugh about the possibility that we might be the in-laws to Jared and Ellen. It was a fleeting crush, which no doubt, has been long forgotten by you and Ellen.
Long after your mother was gone and you both were grown, your Dad remained so friendly. It was always a treat to talk with him and get updates about what you were doing. I was so upset that his life was so senselessly taken, because he was a person who would go out of his way to help anyone. I know that the pain of this loss will be with you forever, but perhaps it will give you a bit of solace to know that others remember and grieve the loss of your parents

TO the Younger family, please accept my sympathy on the loss of your loved one. I was especially touched to learn that Mr. Younger worked with young people as a coach and as a volunteer at his congregation. I also work with young people at my church, and I know how important it is for them to have caring and faithful role models. I pray that the good work that Mr. Younger began in his life will be continued in acts of love and understanding by those who knew him.

Dear Jared and Jordanna,

I wish I had known that your dad was visiting Southern California. He and I met during the summer after the eighth grade, when we were 14 years old. I have written about that time and posted about our friendship on Facebook under my name, Steven Harvey Hirsch. Please read it, and let me know how to reach you when you are back home. My deepest, most heartfelt condolences to you.

To Jordanna and Jared, I've known your dad since high school. When all my friends from class of 65 and 66 graduated, your dad and Sandy L. were the few true friends I had left at school. Your dad was great to me.
Your dad helped my dad ( who is still a member at TOL) keep his apartments rented and when I bought my 1st home on Melvin St. I would get my daughter on the bus and then push my son down to your dad's office on Murray Ave. He would love playing with my son. This was pre Jordanna and Jared. Your dad was sweet, gentle and kind and his loss will be felt deeply. I lost many people this past Saturday including my PCP of 40 + years. I'm heartbroken, so many are devasted across the world.. I will never understand this attack and pray this will never happen again. I will hold your dad's memory close to my heart. My family's deepest condolences to the entire Younger family.

Irv made me feel welcome when I moved to Pittsburg four years ago. Ever since then, I've enjoyed the pleasure of his company and his humor. We both indulged in a shared passion for conversation and we always stopped to chat whenever we met on the streets of Squirrel Hill.

Irv, you are missed.

The tragic loss of Irving is a great sadness. My heart breaks with yours. I hope you will find comfort in the words of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who promises that soon when Gods Kingdom comes the whole earth will rest, free of disturbance. At that time the only cries will be cries of joy. (Isaiah 14:7) Please accept my sincere condolences.
