Irwin "Ike" Belk

Mr Belk was an amazing man. The occasions to spend time with him was always a learning experience about life. His deep love for others was so obvious and giving and sharing life gifts. His beautiful relationship he had with his sister Sarah was always endearing to see..such care. His fairness to take a stand when others being slighted. I will always cherish that experience at Biltmore Estate in humanity and grace. He set an Beautiful example for so many. His presence is greatly missed on so many levels. May the life he lived embody others to greatness in life in service to others. Deeply missed.

My sincere condolences to the Belk Family. Ike was the single most admired art patron in my long career as a professional artist. I first, met Ike and Carol at the campus of Appalachian State Univ. and from that day forward he was the most sincere, generous and supportive patron I have ever known. He was enthusiastic, encouraging, supportive and I will never forget his broad and renowned legacy in this state and beyond. I will miss him deeply.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ike's family and loved ones. I knew Ike since college days. I visited in his home several times and met his father. I first met Carol when I ran into them walking down Michigan Avenue in Chicago before they were married. I followed his career and many-faceted interests. He left a great legacy. I keep this picture of myself, Ike, and my brother Jim in my office.

Condolences and prayer to the Belk family and friends. He led a life doing what he led most. Now he can rest in peace and be cradled in God's peace now and forever. Psalms 145:16

My prayers are with Irwin and his family at this time. I know he is with his wife Carolyn in heaven at this time. I remember him from the time he was a state senator to my aunt ( Virginia Fincher) and my mom ( Hazel "Moe" Robinson working for him. I knew his sons but did not have the privilege of knowing his daughters. A wonderful person and thanks for everything you did for Charlotte and the state of North Carolina!!

Our prayers are with Ike and his loved ones at this sad time. Ike's enthusiasm for life and interest in other people never wavered. He made many friends in the world for our country while at the United Nations and during his unparalleled life's service to the Olympic Movement. Ike was more than a friend. His warm personality and natural generosity of spirit contributed in great part to me meeting my wife and having a wonderful family of our own. A wonderful neighbor for many years, Ike was a lovely person who will be missed.

I liked Ike. My main encounter was at Greg Ott PT. He was an open book, with an open face. I asked him many questions which he readily answered. What were his favorite accomplishments? Why did my father write a check to Dr. Matthews every month? Why was Elizabeth Ave. name Elizabeth? What was his greatest financial gain? Where did he attain his love of athleticism? How was his wife doing? One day he asked me to come out to the parking lot because he had a gift for me in his car trunk, his biography, "The Life of Irwin Belk" with the subheading "Call Me Ike"

A dear friend. Now spending eternity with Carol. We miss you and look forward to the day we meet again.
