On Sunday, July 10, 2005. Loving & beloved husband of the late Rachel Porter; devoted father of Gerri Kay, Idy & William Goodman and Charles & Hilary Porter; dear brother of Ruth Rosenbloom and the late Al Porter; cherished grandfather of Mollie, Jacob & Abby Goodman and Marisa & Gillian Porter; also survived by many loving nieces & nephews and devoted friends. Former Chairman of the Board of Giant Eagle and founding member of Temple Sinai. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC. 5509 Centre Ave., Shadyside, on Wednesday at 1 pm. Visitation 1 1/2 hours prior to Service (11:30 am - 1 pm). Interment B'nai Israel Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Temple Sinai, 5505 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217 or United Jewish Federation, 234 McKee Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

Irwin Porter will be missed by many. I was fortunate to have met him through my knowing his son Chuck at camp as a child, and later at Kiski and found him to be a really nice gentleman. My deepest sympathies.

Once upon a time, two families met on the docks in Poland, summond by their patriarchs, who had begun to make their way in America, land of the free and garden of opportunity.
Then, on those docks, one boy from each family met for the first time and became friends. That friendship lasted for all the years to come, through all the trials and all the joys.
As the son of one of those boys, I and and my wife and my family feel your loss. And yet we continue to feel your father's presence. We will miss him.
