Isaac Martin Rethy

Isaac Martin Rethy, 38, passed away in New York City on April 15, 2023. His passing was sudden and unexpected, following a cerebral hemorrhage. Isaac is survived by his wife Zara Rethy, son Aaron Enakhe Rethy, mother Sonja Rethy, sisters Leah Rethy and Alisa Rethy, parents-in-law John and Lily Ohiorhenuan, and brothers-in-law Dermot Delude-Dix, JJ Ohiorhenuan, and Mika Ohiorhenuan. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Aaron Rethy.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 5, 1984, Isaac attended Walnut Hills High School, the University of Cincinnati, and Xavier University before obtaining his JD from Georgetown University Law Center. Following his graduation in 2009, he served as associate and then as Counsel at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP in New York City where he practiced commercial litigation and served as pro bono counsel on a series of cases with the ACLU of Mississippi.

Isaac was a devoted father and husband, a loving brother and son, and was a great support to his sisters and mother in the difficult times following his father's premature death. Isaac was a loved member of his wife's family who will always treasure his quiet and unique presence. Isaac was also a valued colleague and a kind and loyal friend. Isaac's untimely passing has deeply affected all who knew and loved him. Since his passing, many of Isaac's friends have said that their friendship with Isaac, and Isaac's example, were fundamental to the decisions they made and the directions they took in the progress of their own lives.

Funeral services will be held on April 23, 2023 in New York City. Isaac's family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Isaac Rethy Memorial Fund at the American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi (https://www.aclu-ms.org/).
