Woody was my first Lt. after being hired in 1992. I was assigned to 39 C . Woody always had a smile on his face and was very easy going. I really enjoyed working for him. I will always remember going on a fire alarm call with him and he got dressed in such a hurry that he put his helmet on backwards and I noticed it when we got out of the engine. I told him and we both laugh about it. I still laugh about it today as I am writing this. He was a good person and loved his job. I too will never forget him.

He and I were promoted at the same time. He was a steady hard working, honest, and trusting person.

Woody was a friend, mentor, brother-in-arms, firefighter comrade, and over all good guy ! He, I, and some other firefighter friends, at onetime we're on a golf league. There was 4 of us on a green, when in the distance we heard the faint sound of someone hollering four' ! Of course we all knew what that meant...well... maybe not Woody ! We all covered our heads ... poor Woody ... he looked up to see where the hollering was coming from...and ... whomp... the ball smacked him in the chest, knocked the breath out of him and put him down on the ground! We all hovered over him, saying, Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo-Woody are you okay ? That nickname stuck with him ! Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo Woddy, miss you pal !

I didn't know Mr. Wood personally but I did see him most every morning on his walk up and down 95th St. and walking his little dog. We waved to each other but really never spoke. I am sure he is at peace.
