Isabel Dawson Gales

OBITUARY ISABEL DAWSON GALES (1912-2009) Isabel Dawson Gales, McGill B.A. '33, B.C.L. '36 died on June 15, 2009, daughter of A.O Dawson and Mary Le Rossignol, wife of the late D. Lorne Gales, mother of Pamela (Carman Miller), Robert (Katherine Gray-Donald), Richard (France Labonte), and the late Graham, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. During her studies at McGill, she served on the Student Executive Council and was active in the Student Christian Movement, intercollegiate sports and debating. In 1939 she married and devoted herself to her family and her community through numerous volunteer organizations including the Montreal Children's Library, the Women's Auxiliary of the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Women Associates of McGill University, the One O'clock Club, the Diggers and Weeders Garden Club of which she was honorary president, (member since 1961), Hudson Garden Club, St. Mary's Sewing Circle and the Como Library Committee. A talented gardener and generous, warm-hearted hostess, she opened her home for the many social events in which her husband Lorne was involved as Executive Director of the McGill Fund Council. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. June 25, at St. Mary's Anglican Church (Como) 261 Main Road, Hudson, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in her memory may wish to donate to the Montreal Children's Library, the Friends of the Redpath Museum (McGill University) or to the charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of 13E Geriatrics, Montreal General Hospital, and the staff of the second floor of Chateau Westmount for their excellent care.
