I worked for Dr. Sando at the otopathology lab at Eye and Ear Hospital in the early 1980's preparing the ears that he used for his research. I moved to NY in 1984 so left the job. I think of him every so often because he was a pretty extraordinary man. I googled him today and found that he passed away one year ago. I am sorry to hear this, and wanted to send my condolences. He was a great teacher and a joy to work for. Kathleen Spinelli

Dear Yoko-san and Mariko-san,
We were saddened by the departure of our friend Isamu-sensei. Having worked with him for almost ten years in Denver, we knew well all of his virtues as a scientist and a teacher, but we were also happy to have gotten to know him as a wonderful human being. We share in your grief, but we know that you will continue to have many warm memories of this fine man. All our love, Kiyoe and Steve Silverberg

Yoko and Mariko:
Please accept our condolences to you and all of your family during this difficult part of life. In our mind we will remember Isamu as the kind and pleasant person with whom we enjoyed brief conversations at the opera. We always enjoyed seeing both of you (Isamu and Yoko) coming down the aisle to take your seats, and to hear a bit about travels and family. We will miss seeing both of you on opera nights in the future.

We are proud of being close friends of Sando-Sensei for 38 years since we first went to pittsburgh in 1976. He was a person whom we respect and whom we love so much as well. What he achieved in his life with the help of his beloved wife, Yoko, was amazing. We share the sorrow with Yoko-Mom, Mariko and all of Sando Family.
