MILTON - Ivan Gilbert Benfer, 80, of 3275 State Route 642 died Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2005, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Muncy, a son of the late James and Clara (Dunn) Benfer. He was married for more than 59 years to the former Helen Kinney, who survives.
Mr. Benfer graduated from Watsontown High School and Williamsport Technical College.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater in France and Germany. He received two Purple Heart medals.
Mr. Benfer was a retired truck driver and had been employed by Kepler Bros. Trucking in Milton. Earlier in life, he had been employed by Philco and Jasper Wood Products in Watsontown and at Warshow & Sons in Milton.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Potts Grove.
He was also a member of the American Legion in Milton.
Mr. Benfer enjoyed RV camping and fishing in Canada.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one son, Jon Benfer and his wife Wendy of RD Danville; two grandchildren, Jennifer Schickel and Robert Benfer; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Gene Benfer of Watsontown, Wayne Benfer of Tower City and Dennis Benfer of Selinsgrove.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Marshall, in 1980, and by an infant son, Ivan Jr.
Friends and relatives will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, where the funeral services will be conducted at 2 by the Rev. Barbara J. Collins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 72, Potts Grove, PA 17865.
