Dear Susan, Ivar D, Jim' We loved Ivar! Our lives are richer because of his friendship. We will miss him immeasurably. We will miss his enthusiasm. We will miss his tickled laughter, and quick wit retorts. We will miss hearing about his latest great discovery or find. We will even miss his questioning doubt of things.
We believed, as a true friend, he would be there for each or both of us, if ever we called upon him.
So many fun times and laughter shared with Ivar are now wonderful memory gifts he has left with us.
He has also left us the three of you! We love you and are here for you. S & E

Ivory,

This is a real tough one. Damn it! So many great times. All of our Canada trips, visiting Uncle Joe. Buying our bottle of Cheavis and having to drink it before we returned to the states. Drinking with all the dock workers in those dive bars by the waterfront while I talked to them in Polish& Serbo-Croatian. Your requests for entertainment, I with the help of those drunken dock workers we tried to honor! We did, didn't see you for 18 hours- till you finally showed up all disheveled and looking to say the least, that you lost- and you needed money before you passed out. Loved those rugby trips. They were all before you met the love of your life, St. Susan (WOI)! Some wild motorcyle adventures and Caplans!! Susan remembers Caplans! O'Connors- God Save Ireland- their back room! Kelleys, yeah! The coastal winneries in my Mickey Mouse Volkswagon bus. Oh yes- we were fortunate, lucky moreso to have survived our youth- wouldn't trade it for anything. Somehow I think Ivar David and Jim will carry on for you although - with a little more sanity- nah, they are your offspring!! They will take care of the love of your life- Susan (Wife of Ivar). Thank you my friend- Jeff

I knew Ivar for 40 years. We stayed in touch for most of that time. There were periods of time when we didn't see each other but we always reconnected. I looked forward to our frequent lunches. When it was Ivar's turn to choose I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. Only the "real thing" could get a thumbs up and Ivar's endorsement. I enjoyed so much our conversations about everything from whisky, wine, cigars, politics, birds, travel and any number of things. You are missed, my friend. Terry & Hang Reede

I worked with Ivar for many years. He was a great guy to have around when working in stressful situations since we were always able to find some humor to smooth over the tough spots. I liked working with him a lot. I remember one time he came into my office and said rather sinisterly that he had pictures of me when I was a kid. Then he told me I had gone to grade school with his wife Susan. So I said, that must mean I have pictures of your wife when she was a kid and we had a good laugh. Susan we didn't know each other well but I am so sorry for your loss.

Thanks, Ivar, for being in my life. You were a great friend. All the shots, beers, laughter and insights we shared in afternoons at O'Connor's, then Hubers and, finally, at Kays.
My tenderest sympathies to Susan, Ivar D, Jim and your sisters and brother.
You are missed, Buddy.

What a great guy, he would give you the shirt off his back for you. I'll always remember how my dog Jack warmed up to Ivar and no one else. We will miss him dearly , a great friend. He will be missed.

I was one of Ivar's many friends that gathered at the Running Fox in downtown Portland after work (back in the early 1970's). It was a bunch of real characters...Fats Waller, Mahalich, Ron Harris, Wayne Gravning, Jack Olsen, and some I can't remember names. Ivar and Mahalich were roommates and they played on a volleyball team with me that my Mom's tavern sponsored. I last saw Ivar at Costco a few years ago and it was like no time had passed. Always laughing, always so funny. I was proud of Ivar pursuing his college education and his work ethic. His family life came after our bachelor days but it sounds like a life well lived. I am sorry that he passed away before I got to see him again. My condolences to his family.
