Ivy Roth

November 11, 1932 - August 7, 2016

Salem, OR - Ivy Marie Roth passed away peacefully at home after suffering from progressive dementia for several years.

Ivy was the youngest of the five children of Harry and Clara Charles. She grew up on the family's farm near Minnedosa, Manitoba. She graduated from nursing school at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1956. She subsequently worked in Winnipeg; Ponoka, Alberta; Rio de Janeiro; and ultimately in Portland, Oregon, at Multnomah County Hospital. She excelled as an operating room nurse.

In 1963 she married Dr. John C. Roth, Jr., a native of Pratum, who was then Professor of Anesthesia at OHSU. In 1970, the family moved to Salem, Oregon, where Dr. Roth practiced at Salem Hospital. Ivy devoted herself to caring for their two children and new home, where she happily resided the rest of her life. Until her health interfered, she attended Emmanuel Bible Church. She was an avid gardener, cook, lover of animals, and was dedicated to the care of many friends and relatives.

She is survived by her daughter Kim Geelan and son-in-law Eric Miller of Salem, Oregon; her son John Roth of Seattle, Washington; her sister Vivian Young of Calgary, Alberta; and her sister Bernice Russell of Souris, Manitoba. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother Gordon Charles, and sister Adele Peterson.

Friends and relatives of Ivy are welcome to attend an open house in celebration of her life, September 10, 2016, from 2 until 5 pm, at 1700 Barnes Ave. SE, Salem, Oregon.
