Izzy Ramirez Obituary
Izzy was a warrior from the beginning having been born with several congenital heart defects, two genetic conditions called DiGeorge and Noonan syndromes, and countless other ailments that would be discovered over time. God (and the ministry that is science and medicine) blessed Izzy through numerous surgeries, procedures, and four separate hospital admissions.
Izzy was known for her tenacious spirit, unmistakable side eye, and chubby cheeks. Bees and hedgehogs (Hedgie, Hedgie Sr. and, most recently, Hedgietta) adorned her space. Art and gifts from her nurses, friends, and family filled room 25 creating her own secret garden.
Though most others would hate being in the hospital, Izzy's diligent and dedicated care team made her family feel loved, competent, at ease, and heard. Duke University Hospital began to feel like a second home to them as she spent nearly eight months of her life there. Izzy's family and friends cannot begin to express the enormous debt of gratitude owed to the PCICU for giving them eight and a half months with her.
Izzy is survived by her parents, her sister Eva, her dog Koa, her loving grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists and friends. She was loved well by her people and her parents' people; to include the Redeemer, Reynolda, and Maven communities.
The family humbly asks that, in lieu of flowers, you consider planting bee-friendly flowers or plants, or donating to your favorite children's charity in Izzy's honor. Her parents highly recommend:

Izzy was so so special! She was the kind of baby you couldn´t help but fall in love with immediately. You two were such great parents to her, Izzy knew SO much love while she was here. I feel so thankful that I got to know her when she was on Stepdown. She had such a big impact on all of the nurses that took care of her I´m thinking of y´all and praying for you throughout this time. Every time I see a bee, I´ll be thinking of miss Izzy busy bee
