Dear Mary, I was sorry to learn of the Senator´s passing. I worked on his staff in the late 80´s and early 90´s. It was good to see in the coverage his ability to work across the aisle. I think of that often in these contentious times. I hope these later years have been filled with with joy for you both.
Warmest regards,
Susan Sherk

Bennett Johnston was a rare political leader. He understand the value to the Nation's developing advanced energy systems, both fission and fusion. Moreover he appreciated the importance of supporting research in advanced sciences such as materials, high energy physics, and next generation computing. A rare congressional leader who supported the US attempts to be an international leader in science and deploying science to meet the Nation's needs. Unfortunately there is no such individual in the US Senate or Congress today.

Dear Johnston Family,
My hearts is with you during this difficult time. I had the honor of working for the late Senator Johnston in the New Orleans office and did so with great pride. He was a respected and personable politician who put the people of the great state of Louisiana first.
May God bless you!

Mary: I have tremendously fond memories of coming to your house early in the morning to play tennis with Bennett. Wendy and I so very much enjoyed spending time with both of you in Sperryville. Bennett was a tremendous leader for the energy industry and for the nation. You both will always have a special place in my heart.
