Dr. Caldwell was our family doctor and surgeon in the 50s, 60s. Wonderful bedside manner. He had an RCAF connection I think. I have many happy memories of Dr. Caldwell, including at the Royal Ottawa GC. (I thought of him because I was watching a George Strait music video, and he looks a little like Dr. Caldwell)

Caldwell kids. I remember the many times your dad made me laugh with his quick jokes and giggle. I often chatted with him at the golf club over the years and he kept me abreast of your activities. My best wishes.

Thank you Doctor Caldwell for all of the care you gave to my family from 1945 throughout many, many years. My mother told me the story of how our family first contacted him, and then had him as our doctor for so many years. Just after the second world war, my brother Eric was very ill and required a doctor. Our family had no family doctor at that time, so my mother called the Civic Hospital and asked if they could recommend one. She was told that there was a young doctor who was just starting up his practice and gave they her Dr. Caldwell's telephone number. He immediately came to our house and because of his fine medical care, was able to cure my brother Eric of Quinsey. When I was only four years old, he once again came to our house on Christmas Eve to take care of my badly infected finger. As a little girl I remember how patient he was, with me sitting on his knee and asking him one question after another, while he treated my finger. Then again when I was eight years old and how he would take time out of his busy schedule to come to our house every second day to check on a problem I was having with my kidneys. As a large family of nine, with six boys, we had to have him treat us on many occasions throughout the years. He never failed to cure whichever medical problem we happened to be suffering from at the time, whether it be by prescribing a medication or by performing whatever operation was necessary at the time.
My family thought the world of Dr. Caldwell, especially my mother, who told everyone that he was the best doctor in the world. These are just a few of the many, many memories I have of this wonderful man throughout the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time, and I hope you can find solace by knowing that his time spent on this earth was so valuable, meaningful and so much appreciated by so many!
Roberta Hagar on behalf of the Hagar family.
