Life-long local resident Mrs Jessie Mabel Osborne (94), of Stoneyford Court, Sutton, was buried at the town's cemetery after a service at St Mary's Church, Sutton.
Born at Huthwaite, Mrs Osborne was educated locally at Huthwaite Church of England and Blackwell Road schools. She had worked in the hosiery industry for Simpson, Wright & Lowe and CWS Huthwaite and then later for Steel & Busks Ltd on Coxmoor Road and at Sutton's Pretty Polly.
In younger years she loved gardening and enjoyed working on the allotment with her late husband, Arthur. She also liked dancing and in later years the couple took up modern sequence dancing, enjoying many holidays with their friends. After her husband died in 1982 she went on holidays with her good friend, Joyce.
Mrs Osborne, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, leaves her son, Ian, daughter Norma, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mourners were Mr I. Osborne, Mr and Mrs A. Reece, Mr and Mrs N. D. Reece, Mr A. Bryan, Miss A. J. Reece, Mr C. Wildman, Miss S. M. Osborne, Mr R. J. Bryan, Miss L. E. Bryan, Miss J. Bryan, Mrs S. Klapkowski (representing Mrs W. Marriott), Miss S. Klapkowski, Mr and Mrs P. Wright, Mr and Mrs M. Thorpe, Mrs A. E. Reece, Mr and Mrs P. Jackson (representing Mrs A. Merry), Mrs M. Atkins, Mrs C. Bevan, Mr L. Butlin, Mr S. Harris, Mr A. Gledhill, Miss K. Green.
Floral tributes and donations of £150 to the Alzheimer's Society were received from family and friends.
The service was conducted by the Rev J. Palmer, and arrangements were by Co-operative Funeralcare.
