Mr. Stephens was both my neighbor, friend and both my parents' principal. I will never forget when I was a little girl and had a bad bike accident. Mr. Stephens rushed outside, picked me up in his big bear arms and carried me back home. He was such a wonderful man. As a kid, I would go visit him a lot and we'd always have so much fun. He was my friend and I loved him. We will never, ever forget you, Mr. Stephens! I'll see you when we all get to Heaven, because I *know* you're there!

Mr. Stephens was a great principal. He cared about his students and he was very fair. Very talented educator. Now he will be reunited with his wife Mary Ann. Rest in peace, Mr. Stephens.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr.Stephens passing. He was a good man and I had the honor of running into him several times later in life and talking with him. I know that God has a special place in Heaven for such a man who was as good a person as he was. My sympathy to his children. Doris Cheek James --class of 1970

My mother always called Mr. Stephens "the eye in the sky" as a reminder to us when we went to Stephens County High School. It was a reminder that he - as the Principal - was all seeing and all knowing and we'd better behave while under his care at school. I remember him as a kind and gentle, no-nonsense leader who certainly earned our respect. Mr. Stephens also attended our church; and I was fortunate to have also had him as a Sunday school teacher. Much love to Sheryl and Barry and family and I am so sorry for your loss.

Sheryl and Rondal,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in the loss of your Dad. Mr. Stephens was a fine man....we first knew him as Principal at Stephens County High School in 1968 when Judy was a senior there. Our paths have crossed many times since then. Your Dad will be missed.
Thinking of you now and may God give you peace and comfort during this sad time.

Mr. Stephens was the most influential man in my life other than my father. His guidance and words of wisdom for a young high school student made all the difference. He earned the respect and admiration of a young man then and has kept it for all these years. I hope you will find comfort in the many stories, condolences, cards and words of sympathy you will be showered with over the next few days, weeks and years. A man such as your father had a hand in molding many and you will continue to hear from us in the years to come.

Mr. Stephens was the personification of a true professional as a principal and superintendent. He was always fair and very forthright in all the time I had the pleasure to work with him on his staff and then later in a business relationship. Young administrators and principals that will or would follow the example he set, will be very successful and significant in all their undertakings. I have the utmost respect for J M Stephens. I was honored to have the privilege to work with and for Mr. Stephens. Mack Poss
