Jack Lee Black, age 85, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on August 19, 1932 in Zanesville, OH to the late James and Mildred (Newsome) Black.
Jack is survived by four children: Brent J. Black of Troy, Velvet A. Nees of Piqua, Dana D. Black of Troy and Baron L. Black of Troy; Shirley J. Black of Troy; one sister: Barbara A. Stires of Zanesville; and eight grandchildren: Travis, Emma and Alex Nees, Morgan, Madelyn, Makenna and Macie Taylor and Lindsey Black.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Dr. Edward E. Black and Harry W. Black.
Jack was owner of The Holiday Inn in both Troy and Englewood, Best Western in Piqua and Black Jacks in Englewood. He was a past member of Troy Country Club and a member of Troy Fish and Game. Jack was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy and St. Marys Catholic Church in Piqua. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy with Rev. Fr. Eric Bowman as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Troy. Friends may call from 5:30 – 8:30 PM on Thursday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P. O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373 or St. Patrick Soup Kitchen, 409 E. Main Street, Troy, OH 45373.

I heard the news this morning about Jack. He was a great man. I worked as a bookkeeper for him when he owned Blackjack's many years ago. He sent me a note of encouragement when I had cancer 7 yrs ago. I was touched by his kindness. Condolences and prayers for the family.. I am so sorry for your sadness... May the Lord's presence be by your side and with your family, Jack. God bless you, friend.

SO SORRY TO LEARN OF JACK'S PASSING; SHIRLEY HAD INVITED ME TO STOP TO SEE HIM A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AND I HAD INTENDED TO DO SO --- UNHAPPILY I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE, AND I VERY MUCH REGRET THE OMISSION. JACK WAS ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS --- AND WILL BE SORELY MISSED.
