Jack E. Bobo

On January 15, 2021, at the age of 96, Jack Bobo passed peacefully.

Jack was born in Laurens, South Carolina and spent his childhood moving between South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York City. After graduating high school, he joined the Army Air Corps in June of 1941. He served as a Flight Instructor at Luke Field during WWII, flying P-38s.

During his time in the Air Corps, he lost a coin toss and had to go on a blind date with his buddy's friend, Gladys. That date laid the groundwork for what would later become known as "the greatest love story ever," resulting in a beautiful marriage that spanned 67 years.

Jack spent the bulk of his career in the life insurance industry. He was a Career Agent with NY Life and ended his working years as CEO of National Association of Life Underwriters in Washington DC. During that time, he held positions on numerous boards and committees, including serving as President of: the Phoenix Better Business Bureau, Washington Elementary School District Governing Board, both Phoenix and AZ Life Underwriters' Associations, and the National Association of Life Underwriters. He was a Lifetime Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and a recipient of the John Newton Russell Award (which is the highest honor in life insurance).

Jack was a man among men. All who met him said it was an honor to know him. He lived every day of his 96 years with integrity, dignity, gratitude, and strength. He was known for his unwavering sense of personal responsibility, his hard-headedness, and his love of crossword puzzles and a good strawberry milkshake.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys; his son, Glen; his brother, Bob; and his parents, Miriam (Whyte) VerVoorn and Floyd Bobo. He is survived by his granddaughter, Lise Arensberg (Matt), grandson Christopher, great-grandsons Collin and Brandon, nieces Debra Webb (Duane), Denise Nassar, Donna Harwood (Randy), and their children and grandchildren.

He will be laid to rest on Tuesday, Feb. 2. It was Jack's request that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Skull Valley Elementary School, PO Box 127, Skull Valley, AZ 86338. 928-442-3322

What an honor it was to have known Jack and Gladys Bobo. They were fine people and always very kind and gracious. I met Jack and Gladys through their son Glen and in recient years when Glen was in town he and Jack and I would always plan to go out for dinner together. It was always a very enjoyable time when we would reminisce about the past and all of the people that we knew along the way. Jack knew everyone in the insurance industry, the greats and the not so greats and it was fun to hear his stories. I will miss Jack and I will always be proud to have known this wonderful man.

He was a kind, generous fun to be with man and I'll always remember him. Parties and dinners at their house were always special. The trees he had carved into Totem Poles in his back yard were fun to see and a great conversation piece. He did so much for his church and if you were his friend------you really had a friend. Rest in peace Jack you deserve it. Jane Shever
