Jack E. Clifton

Me and my wife were neighbors of Jack's for a few years.During this time we became friends. I would have to work late or from time to time not get to come home at all. He would tell me not to worry about my wife that he would keep a check on her and he did.He once offered her his parking spot so she wouldn't have to walk through the mud at the apartment. I have numerous great memories of him. Heaven just received a great man. We'll miss you Jack.

I met Jack when I was living with my sister Peggy and her wonderful husband Dillard Bucklen (may they rest in peace). We enjoyed his visits so much.
I remember one time when he was having supper with us I told Dillard I thought Jack was "very handsome" so he signed to Dillard for him to tell me that he thank me,after that I watched what I said around Jack. Another good memory was when he had bought a new car so he invited me to go for a ride and of course at 17 years old I was not going to turn such a handsome man down. I would loved to have let Jack know that I also made it to Alaska and it is just like he said it was.
Rest in peace Jack and my deepest sympathies to your love ones.

I am so sorry to hear about Jack's passing. Jack was my childhood mentor who planted a seed in my mind in term of my education and career. I told everybody in the deaf community that he was "my deaf father". He certainly was a great influence in my life. As a child with hearing impairment, I could not communicate with people well until I met Jack at his sister Grace's house in Whitewood. I questioned someone how could Jack understand what people were saying and learned that he primarily depended on his lipreading skill. From that point on, I decided to use his technique to communicate with people.and it did work for me to a certain extent. I don't know what would happen to me if Jack hadn't come into my life. I thank God for sending Jack to us and he is now in the better place. May he rest in peace. I shall never forget his smiling face, sense of humor and inspirations just like I saw him the last time a few weeks ago.

He was a very special person who really loved his family. We will all miss him deeply.

Uncle Jack was one of the most fascinating men I have ever met. His wonderful adventures and stories will be with us all forever. His incredible ability to overcome adversity was amazing. He will always be a great inspiration for me to enjoy life and family to the fullest. God bless him.

Uncle Jack was an amazing person. He would come into our lives with excitement, laughter and mystery. Even though he was deaf he would have traveled from Alaska or wherever with exciting stories of travel by sled dogs and little planes. He called me his little "Butterfinger" referring to my favorite candy bar. From him I developed a love of traveling. I also learned some sign language which has been a big part of my life. He was my hero and I cared for him deeply.

My Mother grew up in Buchannan County with you all as friends, and Edith, I believe she considered you one of her best friends. Mother went on to Heaven March 19, 2005. She was May Ferrell. She has told us many stories of her childhood. She had a lot of sad memories but you and your family made her have some good memories too. God Bless you all in your sorrow over the loss of Jack but you know, I'm sure Jerry will welcome him and be most happy to see him. May you find comfort in knowing this in the sad days that follow.

I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Jack...time at VA Beach when Ed and I were little kids, his visits to our house when we were little (he always liked to come at Halloween and eat our candy while we were in school!), his love of animals. My dogs over the years always recognized his affection. He was the dog whisperer before anyone ever thought of such a thing. He loved to play practical jokes on everyone, but as an adult I had many serious conversations with him. He was always curious and interested in my life. He never let being deaf stop him from any pursuit. I always knew he would try to be at all of the big family events, and I will truly miss his presence.

Uncle Jack was someone you could always count on to make you laugh. Even though I would only see him once a year or so, I could count on him to make me smile and could always feel the love he had for his family. He suprised me one day when he showed up at my work with a dog tag that my Dad wore while serving in the Army - years and years before. He thought that I would like to have that little memento. He was right as I immediately added it to my key chain and that has been 10 years ago. Uncle Jack was very special to me and I will miss him greatly.

No matter how far away, or how long between visits a familys love only grows stronger. Uncle Jack was, and is so very unique, so very special.Jed, you have always been in my heart, I love you, my prayers are with you, now Dad and Uncle Jack can fish together, they can now hear and see. It must be amazing. I am so happy for them. God bless my family, You are not alone Jed you are so very loved.
