The day my mom, Patty, became Mrs. Jack Goll, was the same day she chose a wonderful dad for my sister and I. He stepped up to the plate when our biological fathers didn't, and he did so giving it his all. He not only made us feel like his own, he legally made us his own and adopted us, giving us his name. I am thankful to my mom for seeing this quality in him. It didn't matter to him that we didn't have his blood in our veins, he saw two girls that needed a dad and he gave us the wonderful gift of himself and his love. He showed us that the old saying that anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad is true. I remember that he worked days delivering mail, and nights at the Egyptian Theatre, but he always made time to play lots of games with us kids. I can't imagine how tired he must've been working two jobs, but he never sacrificed time with his kids because of it. It must've been tough making ends meet, as five of us went to Coos Catholic School, and just the daily support of six kids is expensive. He and Mom worked hard, scrimped, saved, and somehow managed to give all six of us birthdays and Christmases to remember. Only now as an adult, with kids of my own, and my own bills to pay, do I fully understand and appreciate what they did for us. Before he married my mom, he sent all four of his kids to Coos Catholic School, and that had to have been hard to manage on his own. He was a great dad, who always put his kids first, and was always interested in what we were doing. As a granpa, he can't be beat. I am so thankful that my girls had Granpa Jack in their lives. He was always around, there are tons of memories, but one thing I remember is that Jeff and I were having a garage sale one year in November, and he came by with slurpies for the girls. After drinking them they were, of course, cold. Well, just in time here comes Granpa Jack again with a thermos of hot chocolate! I think one thing that made him so special as a granpa is that he always seemed to see things through the kids' eyes. You would think with his rough and gruff voice that kids would be afraid of him, but I never knew one that was. They just knew he was a good guy, one that they could trust. I could go on and on singing praises of our dad. Jack Goll had such an intense presence, that there will definitely be a void without him in this life. It's hard to believe that he has really passed on. I feel so blessed to have been one of his kids, and to have been loved by him. Even though I live in Utah, I still have a great love for North Bend, instilled by Dad. No matter where I live, I will forever be a Bulldog. Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and sympathy.

Jack always had a kind word and a smile for me whenever I saw him when I was a youngster, whether it was at a football game, delivering mail, or just seeing him around town. He will be missed. May God bless you Jack and your family.

I just wanted to post a message and thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for our family. Jack will be missed, but like Mayor Weatherall said at his service yesterday, Jack will live on in each of us that knew him. I often joked, that Jack was the only reason i married into the family. He was incredible, and i am thankful that i was a part of his family. I will miss him each day, I will miss picking up the phone and calling him with some family trivia, or question, only he would know the answer to.

Thanks again for your support. TGWB!!

I wish that I could be there and tell you how sorry I am for the loss of Uncle Jack. Memories of the football games in the street, fishing in the sand dunes, and taking me pigeon hunting and having a ball. My heart is heavy with sympathy.

I worked with Jack at the Surplus Center, and will always cherish my memories of him. He always was kidding me about my jobs, because of when I first met him, I was working at Subway, and then at Mc Mahans. He was a great person and will be truley missed by all. My sympathy to the family. God Bless.

Thinking of all the Goll's at this sad time, and recalling a few memories I have of Jack as we grew up in NB: our mailman on Union Street, biggest Bulldog fan (especially when playing the Pirates)(smile), best house to trick-or-treat at Halloween (big size candy bars!) and friend, forever known as Grandpa Jack. Our prayers are with you all.

I'm glad that I got to grow up in a world with your Dad. He always had a smile and a laugh for people. I can remember many a football game that he officiated while I was growing up and playing in North Bend. Just the mention of his name could cause a room to light up. We'll all get to see him again, someday. He's never gone as long as he is remembered.
