I just now heard of Mr. Hanson's death. He had only been retired such a short amount of time, it's a shame he didn't get enough time to be free. He spoke of his wife so highly, like she was his queen-- my deepest condolences to you Claire-- may you see him again and be together for eternity.

i just heard tonight that Mr. Hanson had passed away and the first thing that came to my mind was when i got to be in his class for the year he helped build an art shanty out on medicine lake and how much fun i had doing my painting for my section of the shanty. and how disappointed i was knowing that he wasn't going to do it the next year with a new class. that's nowhere as disappointing as now knowing that no new students will ever get to enjoy an art class with him because his were truly one of a kind

Dear Claire,
I had no idea that Jack had passed until I received the card from Intermedia Arts for his Memorial Retrospective in yesterday's mail. I was stunned. I am so sorry for your loss and we send our most sincere, belated condolences to you and your daughters.

Dear Claire,
During our lunch a few weeks ago you wanted people to know what a wonderful person Jack was. It is SO evident that many, many people know how wonderful he is. I read the entries to the guest book and see how much he touched people's lives. Jack is going to be missed by all who knew him. I think about you, Emily, and Naomi, a lot. I pray that all those surrounding you help. Love, Bonnie

My sincere condolences to all of Mr. Hanson's family and friends. I am a former student of his from both TLC and Armstrong H.S. I had him for at least 10 art classes in total. He was my favorite teacher, and the most inspirational to me in my career path. I went on to become a successful Graphic Designer and I owe a lot of this to Mr. Hanson. He wrote me my letter of recommendation into art school. I started to cry when I heard he died because his impact on me for my life was and is so profound. He was a wonderful man and I will always think of him fondly, he will be VERY missed by us all.

I have picture of Jack in my office along with other precious momentos.
We played on the same hockey team some years ago and had a team photo taken. I don't know when the last time was that I saw Jack or talked to him but I will always remember him and see him. He was what we used to call "A good guy" and I grieve with you all.

I did not have enough time with you Jack, perhaps there is never enough time. I will miss your array of "stuff" at the ecco garage sale, conversations with you at the pie social, watching my children's excitement when they see you swinging on the porch swing, Seeing your work as an artist evolve - there is so much to miss from a person as unique and special as you. I find solace in knowing that I can always share memories about you with those who love you dearest, Claire, Emily and Naomi.

We hung from
the tops of trees
holding baskets
in our teeth. Then
with our free hands
we lunged at stars

Dear Claire, Emily, and Naomi,
JoAnne and I are heartsick at Jack's passing. Your family has always symbolized the creativity, compassion, and community of ECCO.
Jack and I had a friendly garage sale rivalry for twenty years. He always had an eye for the best stuff.

Claire, Naomi, and Emily -
Jack was a great man with a great partner and kids - a terrific family. I feel so lucky to have gotten to know Jack. It certainly was easy to know who he is and what he's all about in brief visits because he was so genuinely easy-going, generous, kind, approachable, and friendly. In a relatively short time he helped bail me out a few times - never hesitating. He held me up on a ladder just last week - just as I know that he held so many others up in his life - encouraging his family and friends and holding them up and steady his whole life. You all have my deepest sympathy for this huge loss. Lucia Wroblewski - Afton

Dear Claire, Naomi and Emily, there are no words to describe the saddness that is in my heart for your terrible sudden loss of Jack. I admired and loved him very much. He lived his life with such a solid unwavering kindess, and quiet peace, that anyone who met him would be better for it. Please Know I am praying for you and sending you all my energy and love. I will forever be grateful that I was your neighbor for 12 years. And, I will be there for you, the way you have always been there for me. Jen
