I was 16 when Combat started it's run and never missed an episode My husband, a Navy vet (as was my dad during WWII), passed away a few years ago and my brother, a Vietnam vet, has lived with me since then. We discovered about a year ago that COMBAT was being shown on YouTube, and we have watched every season and are on them for a 2ed time. Last night watched the one where the little French boy wanted to join Hanely, Saunders & group (even had his own rifle), and ended up not only saving Handley, but got the word to the group of the ambush waiting in town.. Kirby is my favorite character on the show. He had the best facial expressions of any of the actors, be it disgust, fear, dislike, disagreeing, etc. Jack was a wonderful actor. Watched in a couple of months ago in the movie me made about paratroops. Will be watching COMBAT again tonight

Jack was a gifted, if underrated actor. His performances afforded me many hours of pleasure. Rest in peace, sir.

I always thought it funny how many times Sergeant Saunders would say to private Kirby. Shut up Kirby, no one asked you or shut up Kirby, and give them a hand. Behind that direct mannner of Kirby you knew deep down he had a heart of gold. He would not trust Bijou, the little jewel but in the end he held out his hand to him. The one character lost his money in a poker game but it was Kirby who gave the wounded soldier in the hospital his own gambling winnings. He did not trust the German medic (Robert Duvall) but in the end he gave bandages to him so the medic could help a wounded comrade. It was Kirby who did not like the solider in the Outsider but in the end he visited him in the hospital and gave him back the money he lost. The character he played on Combat was a direct, fun loving, womanizing man. But again he displayed kindness in the end. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. He played the part like a true professional. God bless him. He gave people like me hours of entertainment and life lessons on what it was like to be an American foot soldier in occupied France.

I just found out Jack died recently. I have fond memories of watching it in the 60s prime time with my Dad who was a WW2 Vet. I watch a double episode of Combat on Saturday nights thanks to a local channel. Kirby was a colorful character that stood out in the cast handling the famed B.A.R. Definitely one of my favorite shows to date R.I.P.

I just learned of Jack Hogan's passing yesterday.

I was age 4 when Combat ended. I discovered Combat one summer when it was airing on the Action channel. Combat is when I first learned of Jack Hogan. Then I saw him in other TV programs like Adam 12.

As far as I know, Jack was the last surviving member of the original cast of Combat.

To Jack's family and friends, I'm very sorry for your loss.

I just learned of Jack Hogan's passing and what a loss. I remember late Sunday night watch parties in the dorm lounge - back to back reruns of Combat and Rat Patrol in the 70's. I followed his career through Adam-12, Sierra, Hawaii Five-O, Magnum, and Jake & the Fat Man - a very talented actor. Condolences to the family.

The Southpaw with the B.A.R. has rejoined his old squad and back on Patrol. Hand Salute to you 'Kirby'. I watched Combat! as a boy- then many years later watched it with my own Boy. No doubt a scene played out millions of times.

Lived the series and he was so great at Kirby. Was a great series and guys and all that went on in Combat. Will miss him and all the departed cast. They don´t make shows like that anymore. Times have changed and not for the better. Rest In Peace Jack. Thanks for the great memories.

As the plain-spoken center of honest hard working America in Combat! He had an open faced look of integrity, somehow untouched by celebrity, what a loss. No matter what was going on Tuesday nights we were there. Thank you Mr. Hogan, What a loss.

As a 12-17 year old child, I watched COMBAT! religiously. I really didn't "get" Kirby. Recently I watched the complete series again as a Vietnam & Desert Storm combat veteran and found most of the shows very moving and therapeutic. And I learned to love Jack Hogan's PFC Wm. G. Kirby as a real man and brother in arms. A character for The Ages.

William G. Kirby, loved that guy, along with Caje, Little John, Vic, Rick, Billy & Doc. At least we have Doc & Billy left. Haven't felt this sad since we lost Mike Connors (Joe Mannix). They were tougher men and a better generation. God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Jack Hogan was a fine actor, and sadly he is unknown to most people today. I'm 68, and I never missed an episode of "Combat". Growing up I met many WW II vets. In the 60s TV shows on that war were common. Jack was the last member of the primary cast of the show to pass on. Too bad he didn't write a memoir. He had a long and enviable acting career. He did a great job carrying that BAR in over 100 episodes. Rick Jason once said he felt Jack was a better actor than he was. "Combat" is still on Youtube and is still being seen around the world. It was well done and still gains new fans.

As a child in the 60's, I watched "combat" every week. We loved how Kirby handled the BAR in the battle scenes. The sound was sooo cool.
His personality on screen was endearing to the audience, a calming influence in battle.
Will miss him

I met Jack Hogan in the early 2000's when he was living in Chapel Hill NC. He lived within walking distance of the University of North Carolina campus. He had a bungalow/cottage next door to his brother. Nice gentleman. I was amazed when I saw him and it clicked, it was him. my condolences to his family. As I mentioned, a really nice man, we even talked about Adam-12

Like Jack, my dad served in the Air Force during the Korean War and he was born Nov. 9, 1929, just 15 days before Jack. Together, we watched many episodes of Combat! I started watching every episode in reruns about a year ago, with about one season left to go. During the past year, I was thrilled to see that Jack was still alive but am so saddened to learn of his passing last week. I wish I had somehow contacted and thanked him personally as watching Combat! again brings back fond memories. I didn't realize that Jack was back in Bainbridge Island, I'm only 4 hours away in Keizer, Oregon. My sincere condolences to Tahani, West, and their children. RIP Jack, love you man!
