Vera Johnston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2012.
Vera Johnston 1919 - 2012 Vera Irene Johnston (formerly Hundey, nee Collett). Suddenly on November 16 at Scenic Acres Retirement Residence in Calgary at age 93. Vera was born and raised in England. During the Second World War she met Fred Hundey, a Canadian soldier stationed in Britain and they married in 1941. Late in the war she survived a direct hit on the family home during a buzz bomb attack, and when peace was declared she emigrated to Canada to re-join her husband. She and her infant son landed at Pier 21, Halifax in 1946 as part of a large group of war brides and their children. She and Fred settled in Windsor, his hometown, and raised their three children there. Following Fred's death, she married a long-time family friend, Stewart Johnston. Widowed again, she continued living in Windsor until recent years when she moved to Calgary to be close to her Alberta relatives. Predeceased by her brother Les Collett, and husbands Fred Hundey (1973) and Stewart Johnston (1992). Lovingly remembered by: her children Ian Hundey (Linda) of Newmarket Ont., Rick Hundey (Jane) of Exeter Ont., and Pamela Morrill (Mark) of Cochrane, Alberta; her nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; her step-children in the Windsor area Tom Johnston, Terry Johnston (Barb) and family, and Joanne Gibbs (John); and her extended family in Canada and Britain. A private funeral was held in Cochrane, Alberta. A commemoration will be held in Windsor at a later date.
