Our heart-felt condolences go to you and your families. We have many fond memories of Jack. We were blessed to know him as friend and colleague. He was an outstanding people person and craftsman. We will always treasure the memories of our visits with him at his home in Torrance and his visits with us in Mariposa. It was a special joy to have him on my staff in Yosemite where his devotion as a long-time volunteer to serving visitors and to protecting the park he loved so much was truly exemplary. I shall be forever thankful that I recruited him and had the privilege of working with him on so many projects over the years. We are also thankful for his service to our nation during WWII and afterwards as a fellow teacher for so many years. Now he is in a far more beautiful place than Yosemite and, no doubt, he has already volunteered his time and talents there! We treasure the good memories and are thankful that Jack was a part of our lives. May God's peace be with you. Bruce, Carol, Amy, Ann Fincham

My condolences to the Phinney family. I will miss Jack. He was very interesting to talk to and lived a long and diverse life. He did it all from military service to teaching and volunteering in Yosemite. We all will miss him.

I will remember your startling blue eyes and smile and the way you would verbally fence with me about topics we shared an interest in. (that secret crafty smile when you struck home with a point and you knew it!) Yosemite was blessed with your care of her exhibits and public spaces, your love and concern for her caretakers and you ability to transcend divisions and be a facilitator for all of us! I miss you Jack....

When ever I think of Yosemite, I will think of Jack Phinney, a man whose love of the park can not be exceeded. As a colleague on the Yosemite staff, jack always had something good to say about various projects and how they could be better. As a result, Yosemite is immensely better off than it would have been without his presence. Thank you Jack and may you enjoy a new dimension of Yosemite beauty.

I always will remember your smile, good spirit, and willingness to help. You did so many great things for the park, and you worked tirelessly to finish all of your projects. You were also always interested in the park's issues, and always provided a good insight. Jack- your humor, good spirit, and can-do attitude were pricelss. I miss you.Thank you for everything Jack. Rest in Peace. Ranger Scott Gediman and Family
