Jack was a friend from our student days in Winnipeg. Following his time of traveling and broadening his horizons we saw each other from time to time in Toronto. I treasure much of his pottery that he kindly gave me long ago.
A true mensch!

Hey Cara, It's Calamity Jane, as Jack nick-named me because of the Louisiana Jane Band when we played at the pizza party baking pizza in the kilns. So fun and memorable just as Jack is and always will be. My sincere condolences to you and your family, Much love Lise Bell/Lorna Racette

Jack was a true Canadian Treasure. I was his assistant in the summer of 1969 at Sheridan College School of Design in Ontario. He was so inspiring, creative, funny and dynamic. He was my Hero and my mentor for my life in clay. During the weeks that he taught I looked after his son Benjamin for an afternoon which I still remember fondly. Jack was an original and it is hard to put into words what he meant to me. He will be remembered forever in our hearts and in the works he has left behind. My condolences to all his family! Thank you Jack for everything!

My memories of Jack stem from my university years in late 60's and early 70's as Jack was my pottery teacher. I felt a real connection to him just because he had spent time studying in Japan and I am of Japanese descent. He truly encouraged me during those years of pottery making which I had a passion for but sadly did not pursue after I received my education degree! I have one of Jack's clay pieces and it will remain next to my desk as it has for so many years. He will be sadly missed but deeply remembered by those who had the opportunity to spend time with him.

Cara, I'm so sorry to hear about Jack. I curled on his team for two consecutive years and subbed with him or played against him many times. Fun guy to be around for the after curling celebrations. I have a few small pieces of his ceramics to remember him by, not that remembering him will be hard. He was a truly unique guy.
