Jacob Maestas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 13 to Oct. 14, 2023.
Sarasota - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jacob E. "Jake" Maestas on September 26, 2023 in Sarasota, Florida from complications brought on by pneumonia.

Born in Denver Colorado, Jake grew up in Northern New Mexico and lived in Los Alamos and Albuquerque before serving in the U.S. Army in Verona Italy during peace-time. Upon his return to Albuquerque he met and married his wife, Frances before moving to the Washington D.C. area to pursue a career in public service with the Department of Defense. The couple had two sons: Rodney R. and Raymond S. Upon retirement, Jake and Frances moved to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina where Jake took an active role in his community including church, community theater, Habitat for Humanity, and Senior Olympic Games where he ran track. Upon a further move to Sarasota Florida, Jake continued his involvement in community affairs and church activity singing in the choir and participating in various church endeavors.

Jake is survived by his wife Frances R. Maestas and two sons: Rodney R. "Rod" Maestas and his wife Eva of Austin, Texas and Raymond S. "Ray" Maestas of Naples, Florida.

Jake will be remembered for his fierce sense of values, strong loyalty to family and friends, and undying love and devotion to his wife, Frances. After a life well lived: Go rest high upon that mountain, for your work on earth is done....

The Family requests that a donation be made to Habitat for Humanity in Jakes honor in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life will be announced for a future date.

The picture above was taken in my home recording studio in Austin TX. I played him one of my tracks and he asked how I was able to play all the instruments and sing at the same time. I showed him the Logic Pro file for the track and showed him how I mixed all the guitar, bass, keyboard, effects, vocals etc. that I played individually together to make the complete song. He said "you might be a genius". He then grabbed the phone pretending to be my manager calling a record company to put together a record contract. We both laughed and finished listening to the song.

I will miss your sense of humor the most dad. -Rod
