Jacqueline Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2025.
Jacqueline Jones of Mt Kisco, N.Y., born April 13, 1939, to Oscar and Marion Hammel in Locust Valley, NY, died May 4th, 2025. Those who went before her include three sisters whom she cared for (Karen, Eunice, Lea), only son, Jeffrey, and beloved husband, Ward.

Dear Mom, no one was surprised that you died of a broken heart less than three months after Dad, but your death was still unexpected and now we are the broken hearted. You didn't want a funeral or any fuss over you, but I told you we would gather anyway. Did you not realize how heavy the burden of grief would be? You were the one who helped so many of us through grief and now you are gone.

I've reserved a picnic area at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, the one down by Kimberly Bridge where we always went. Next weekend on Sunday, June 22nd, we'll have a picnic. Starting at 12:30, we'll have sandwiches from your favorite deli, and some of the salads and desserts you were known for bringing to potlucks over the years. And then we'll talk about you. You won't be there to stop us! We'll remember the stories you told us about how you met Dad, and how poor you were when you first married; how hard you worked and went to college when Jeff and I were almost grown up; about all the jobs you had, more volunteer than paid, in Hospice, Family Counseling, Audubon, Red Cross; and how you listened, how you served, how you loved, how you laughed, in whatever circle or community you found yourself in; and how that mattered to each of us, the ones you left behind: your daughter, Naomi (Robert); daughter-in-love, Laura Jean; sister Shirley (Paul); grandchildren Eleanor, Anna (Neil), and Alec; great grandchildren, Archie and baby girl Hultgren; nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Anyone who knew my mother, Jackie, is invited to join us. We'll be there until there is no more to be said, the tears are all shed, and the laughter is gone.

On behalf of the Board and membership of the Bedford Audubon Society we are very saddened to learn of the passing of Jackie. She was a long-time member and past Board President of Bedford Audubon. Jackie guided us with patience, inclusivity, and with a love of the birds and lands. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and all your family in this time of loss.

Your generous mom and dad took me in as family. Young love knowing you and your family was a precious time. I'll be stopping by on Sunday to share poignant moments with you and friends.

Your Mom was one of the first to welcome me to the Car Club.
My fondest memory of her was in Martha´s Vineyard. She and your Dad would quietly leave our group and walk into town to buy your Mom´s favorite bottle of liquor. They would stroll back to our hotel with Mom holding her precious purchase and she and Dad were holding hands.
Whenever the ladies would gather to chat your father would check on Mom to be sure she was always in his sight. It was so heartwarming.
Your mother´s sweetness and kindness was always so appreciated. Her inner strength was remarkable.
I´m so sorry for your loss. Losing both your parents is beyond heartbreaking. Please be sure to remember how many lives they touched and my memories of both of them will always be with me.

I met Jackie at the Red Cross after 911. Anyone that knew Jackie, knew what a special person she was who contributed so much to building and supporting the team that we had there. That continued afterwards with fabulous lunches at the that she organized and put together. She was a special woman with a unique personality to give so much of herself in a way that worked for me, and many others.

If my post is a duplicate it is because it didn't appear after I wrote it the first time. My wish was to post a small picture of us as part of my post and not the giant version which I don't know how to remove. Jackie and I were soulmates. We met at Cardiac Rehab when Jackie overheard me mention a bird to someone. After that we shared all our sightings and for the rest of my life I'll wish I could tell her my bird stories. We organized a women's lunch group ("US") from Cardiac Rehab members together that has continued monthly for years. Both being a little wild in our "formative years," we had lots of giggles telling our stories. Jackie was a one-of-a-kind and I miss her every day.

Jackie, I met you at cardiac rehab in 2018 and was so comforted by your kindness and calmness. You have left many people with memories of your love.
I´m so blessed to have had you and the group call me one of "Us."
Rest peacefully, my friend. Gina

My name is Maureen Grant, the caregiver who had only met Jacqueline Jones for only three days before she transitioned. I will say her greeting and welcoming smile gives me a comforting feeling that she would be easy to work with. Base on all the things I heard about her she´s an angel. May her soul RIP

Jackie was a true angel on earth. Enough cannot be said about all those she has helped over all these years. May she now fly with the angels!

I am deeply sorry to hear of the loss of Jackie. I met Jackie through the Cancer and heart Rehab at The Chappaqua Crossing where a lunch group organized by her friend Viv. I always made sure I sat bear Jackie. She was a beautiful soul. She told me about losing her son and I bought her a little statue called The Pietra where Mary is holding her son Jesus. That meant a lot to her. She shared with me about her days at the Redcross, how she overcame poverty and she shared that because I was struggling and she was so compassionate about my struggles. I truly loved and appreciated her. She will be missed.

Jackie was the consummate member of the American Red Cross in White Plains, New York. Jackie was my supersisor when I was a volunter group leader of support groups for families of the arm services men and women serving oversees and service men and woman returning home from tours of duty during Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Jackie guided me along the way with insight for me in encouraging members to speak and share their feelings. She helped me be emphatic, supportive and a more effective
group leader. I was blessed knowing her.
