JACQUELINE LLOYD Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 23 to Jun. 24, 2015.
LLOYD
JACQUELINE FARR
On Sunday, June 21, 2015, beloved wife of Jon Carroll Lloyd, MD for 54 years; mother of Hilary Lloyd-Prosser (Steve) and Hardy Carroll Lloyd; grandmother of Theodore "Tad" Prosser; sister of Gordon Farr (Anne) of St. George, Utah and the late Aaron Farr; also survived by two sisters-in-law, Lynette Brooks of Pittsburgh and Bonnie Lloyd of Salt Lake City; many nieces and nephews and her adopted family, the Truongs, refugees from Vietnam, whom Jackie assisted in establishing a life in the United States. Jackie was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and attended the University of Utah. When she and Jon married, Jackie worked to support their family while Jon attended medical school. A friend and neighbor, Urmi Asher, MD, said that "Jackie had an authentic human need to connect with others." She touched many lives. After moving to Pittsburgh in 1968, Jackie worked as a volunteer in a Catholic orphanage in Saigon, Vietnam while her husband, Jon served in the US Army as a surgeon. Upon their return to Pittsburgh, Jackie continued her volunteer work with the Women's Organization of the LDS Church and as a board member of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, Pace School, Linden Garden Club and the Twentieth Century Club. She participated in the founding of Gilda's Club in Pittsburgh (now Our Clubhouse) and served on its founding board. "In this give and receive world," says her husband, Jon "Jackie was a natural giver who always gave unconditionally and inconspicuously." The family would like to especially thank Cherrie Corbett for the gentle, kind and loving care she provided for Jackie over the past two years. They also gratefully acknowledge the impeccable care Jackie received by the staff of Family Hospice and Palliative Care. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 250 N. Dithridge Street, (Oakland) PGH., PA 15213 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Our Clubhouse, 2816 Smallman St., PGH., PA 15222 or Pace School, 2432 Greensburg Pike, PGH., PA 15221.

My dear Jon ... The sad news of Jackie's death just reached
me via Craig Johnson at the Youth Symphony, and my thoughts are with you, Hilary and her family, and Hardy. I regret being so out of touch that I didn't even know Jackie was ill! She was one of my favorite people in the world and I will miss her. I tried reaching you by phone, to no avail, but I'll keep trying to be in touch. I send my
loving thoughts and condolences to you ... Joanne

Ted and I are so sorry for your loss. I was unable to attend the service, but you have been much in my thoughts. I am sorry that I did not get to know Jackie better; she must have been a wonderful woman. My sympathies are with you.

I remember Jackie as a member of the Linden Garden Club who served for so many years as our treasurer. She came prepared to our meetings with detailed reports and helped our club to focus on important financial matters. Jackie was a valuable asset, a giving person, and a joy to be around. She will be missed.

I remember the twinkle in Jackie's eye when I first met her - at the corner of Bellefield and Bayard. She had hugged me as you introduced us and whispered, "I can feel it. We shall enjoy being together!" She will always be in our hearts ... Smiling, whispering and encouraging us to move forward.

What makes this loss especially difficult for me is that we're out of the country and won't return until June 28. Jon, I will miss telling you directly that Jackie was a treasure and someone I will always remember as a sweet but oh so pragmatic person. She propelled us to action in a no-nonsense way and we were all the better for it. We loved her dearly for that and for so many other reasons. All the best dear friend. We appreciate that you truly have lost a wonderful partner.
