Jacques Dungee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2023.
Jacques Antoine Dungee, 53, of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, departed this transitory life on September 21, 2023, after a sudden illness.

Jacques was born in Bronx, New York, on July 3, 1970, to Emily Alfreda Dungee and Arthur "Pete" Dungee, Jr. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Pierre Dungee of Ohio. Jacques is survived by his sisters, Yvonne A. Dungee and Yvette E. Dungee, his fraternal twin brother, André E. Dungee, his niece, Kaitlyn Dungee, and a nephew, Austin Dungee, all of San Diego, as well as his many close friends.

Jacques graduated from Samuel F. B. Morse High School in 1988, where he was Valedictorian. He earned his BS in electrical engineering cum laude at the University of Southern California in 1992, and he earned his MS in electrical engineering at Stanford University in 1993. After graduating, Jacques interned with NCR and soon became a Member of Technical Staff in application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design, architecture, and verification at Bell Labs in 1994, where he worked for more than 7 years. When Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories merged with Alcatel to form Alcatel-Lucent, Jacques was promoted to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. He remained in that position 11+ years. Later, when Alcatel-Lucent was acquired by Nokia in 2015, Jacques was promoted to Platform Software Architect developing ASICs, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and long-term evolution (LTE) layer-1 software. Jacques worked for Nokia for 4 years. In 2019, Jacques began working for L3Harris Technologies, a defense-industry firm. In addition to focusing his skills at L3Harris to help ensure the safety of his country and world, Jacques took great pride in being an effective and respected manager devoted to motivating, supporting, and advancing each of his team members to their fullest potential.

Jacques had a remarkable exuberance for life, which he generously shared with everyone he knew. A loyal friend and gentle spirit, Jacques went out of his way to help many people navigate complex issues and achieve their goals. Long known for his love for and practical application of numbers, for example, Jacques enjoyed helping friends understand, take ownership of, and succeed with finances just as he had done for himself. Whenever Jacques uncovered a solution, he eagerly shared it with all.

A former marathon runner, tennis player, and fitness buff, "Super Jacques" also participated in CanAm Softball Tournaments in the United States and Canada. He played tennis weekly for several decades until the end of his life. Always one to celebrate excellence, Jacques enjoyed following college and professional athletes in football, World Cup Soccer, baseball, and tennis. His keen interest in politics was focused on positive change for a better world and the fair treatment of all people. He loved traveling and vacationing with his friends, especially to Key West, Sea Isle City, Ocean City, the Dominican Republic, Atlantic City, and Canada. Jacques was the life of every party, however large or small. He was an exceptional listener and a consistently calm, logical, and thoughtful advocate for everyone he knew, everyone he met.

Jacques has been and will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew him. Among his greatest achievements was his ability to cultivate extremely strong bonds with people across all cultures and in many countries.

A Celebration of Jacques' Life will be held Sunday, November 19, from 3 PM to 6 PM at Washington House Restaurant in Basking Ridge, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Jacques' name to the NJ Food Bank, an organization he supported.

We were at a softball game. It was the first one I was at with the new team. Nobody knew me and kind of kept their distance. Then Jacques arrived and came over to chat and warm up. He was that kind of guy. I didn't know him really well, but I'll miss him.

This is truly a tough one. I met Jacques while I was a summer intern at Lucent Technologies. My manager gave me challenging (but doable) assignments. I quickly saw that Jacques was a valuable resource for me in pointing me in the right direction project-wise. The thing I mostly remembered was that he was very approachable and kind-hearted. Because of that experience and the back-to-back summer internships at Lucent, we kept in touch even till this day. Personality-wise, I can honestly say he is the same person I met as a summer intern compared to now. He was definitely a joy to be around. He had no ego to bruise. He showed friendship. He implicitly and explicitly gave encouragement. He offered a listening ear. I'll miss you, my friend. Rest in peace and until we meet again!

My Condolences to Jacques family, and all of his friends that he meant the world too.
Im so heart broken that I have lost truly one of my dearest friends. We met about 20 yrs ago through Power Squad. So many memories on and off the field. So much laughter. Even shared tears on occasion. He has always been there for me. We talked daily. He was more than a friend. He was family. My Nieces and my Nephew called him Uncle Jacques, my son has known him since he was 3-4ish and he thought the absolute world of this awesome man. I can´t imagine what life looks like moving forward without him here with all of us. This was his favourite picture of us. gosh Im going to miss this awesome guy.

Losing Jacques has left a deep sense of sadness and disbelief. It's heartwarming to see how he touched the lives of so many people and offered his help generously. My fondest memories are of the vacations we shared, filled with unforgettable adventures and moments of pure joy. From skiing and snorkeling to parasailing, swimming with sharks, and snowmobiling, each experience brought us laughter and smiles. We can´t forget all the partying lol. Jacques had a fearless spirit, always willing to try new things, even if it meant accusing me of trying to "kill" him in jest. These cherished memories will forever remind me of the incredible person he was and the happiness he brought into our lives.

My deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to Jacques' family and friends. I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. As a co-worker of Jacques, I have to say the eulogy on this page describes to a tee that special person I saw in him. Always positive, engaging and helpful, and committed to supporting our team in every way. The world needs more people like Jacques. He will be sorely missed.

Playing softball with the Powersquad, always a cheeky grin on his face no matter what. His utter delight at shouting my nickname "Dr Death" whenever possible.

My condolences to the family, friends and co- workers.
My first memory of Jacques is Lima beans.
He was coming to Canada to visit a mutual friend. I asked if he could grab me a can or two if he found them. Well the night he arrived Jacques and our friend showed up to my door and he turned around and handed me 4 cans of Lima beans.
I knew him a very short time. Maybe 6 months and had the pleasure of seeing him a handful of times. Jacques had a unique way about him. I felt as if I had known him for years. He left that same effect on my kids. He will be missed deeply.
Speak of him often and remember him daily. RIP Jacques.

Our connection began as fellow Spinning instructors and grew to a 25 year friendship. He was my friend, my brother, the "Man of Honor" at my wedding and a constant travel companion. My heart is broken and my world is darker without him.
