Dear Jake,

It has been a couple weeks since we heard that you had left us. The impact lingers on like the smell of incense, still lingering thick. The presence, inexplicable, but mysterious. Shoulders are hung forward due to hearts that are too heavy to carry. I delight in memories of you in earlier days when you hadn't a care in the world. You owned your skateboard, your humor, your confidence. You mother must have been so proud. I was sorry when I heard she had passed, and wondered how you might get along. When my mom passed I was so lost, but I was 35. I couldn't imagine…. I think many are left to wonder what they could have done to protect you, to save you…. You are gone now Jake Fischer, but will never be forgotten. My children wear your smile and now sometimes, your sadness…. To know you Jake was to love you.

even though i never knew you, you will be missed by many people, i'm sorry i never got to know you, we went to the same school for 2 years and even worked in the same building. your life was cut way to short and that i am so sorry for. I pray for you and your family.

I'm sorry I didn't get the opportunity to know you better, or to have stayed in touch. I can't believe that you are not with us anymore. I guess that your mom needed you more than we did right now. I bet her arms were open so wide when she saw you walking into the gates of heaven. I remember playing with your little cars on the floor trying to find the coolest one, laughing and rolling around, such little things that mean so much more now. We have many, many fond memories of Jake: Sunny Hollow gatherings, seeing him ride his bike around the neighborhood, birthday parties and - for me personally - having Jake as one of the gang of four (alongside Trent, Ian and Trevor) who kept me on my toes for three years as their Grace Place leader. I looked at the photos of the boys hamming it up for the camera at their first communion last night and, although it was 8 years ago, it seems like just yesterday. May you, Joe and the girls find the strength to carry on. You are in our prayers now and always.
