Jake Intermill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2020.
Jake Tanner Intermill, age 26, of Vancouver, Washington passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2020.

Jake was born to Susan and Joe Allen Intermill III on June 13, 1994 in Vancouver, WA. He attended Pleasant Valley Primary & Middle Schools, and graduated from Prairie High School in 2012. Jake earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Surveying and Geomatics from Clark College in 2014 and immediately joined the workforce as a Land Surveyor. This career was a natural fit for him, blending his interest in numbers with his love of the outdoors. His strong work ethic quickly propelled him into the role as party chief, leading his teams on a wide variety of complex field surveying projects across the region. He often spoke about how he loved his job and coworkers at Precision Land Services (PLS) Engineering.

Jake had many talents and interests outside of work, including playing & watching sports, music, dancing, camping, animals, and his greatest passion – fishing-particularly fly fishing. Watching him fish was truly an experience. His instincts and methods were amazing and often seemed effortless-a natural. He loved sharing the experience with family, friends, and especially enjoyed the annual fishing trips with his dad and brother. Fishing was in his soul.

Jake grew up playing many sports, but focused on baseball, basketball, football and soccer (including varsity baseball and football at Prairie, and college baseball at Clark). In addition to the more celebrated benefits of playing sports, Jake also experienced opportunities for travel to play in baseball tournaments across the west, Cooperstown, NY, and even the Dominican Republic. Most importantly, these activities served to help Jake form special, enduring friendships with countless players and coaches. These relationships flourish to this day.

Jake loved music from all genres and time periods, and often demonstrated this knowledge (and his dance steps) at gatherings with family and friends. His wit and sense of humor produced smiles on everyone he met. Jake dearly loved his family and friends, and cherished the time he spent with each of them. Jake, himself, was so easy to love.

Jake is survived by his parents Joe and Sue Intermill of Vancouver, his sister Lacie Shanks (husband Josh) of Beaverton Oregon, brother Joe Intermill (wife Sarah) of Washougal, WA, sister Shaina Shipp (husband Spencer) of Ridgefield, WA, 5 nephews (Jackson & Noah Shanks, Hunter & Ollie Shipp, and Levi Intermill), grandmother Betty Merrill of Vancouver, grandparents Joe & Shirley Intermill of Highlands Ranch Colorado, and many aunts, uncles and cousins across the west. He is preceded in death by his "Grandpa Jack" Merrill of Loveland, CO.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, Jake's Celebration of Life will be a small, invitation-only event.
