James ANDERSON Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 17, 2016.
ANDERSON, James Edward
January 4, 1936 – February 11, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of James (Jim) Anderson announces his passing in West Vancouver on February 11, 2016, at the age of 80. Jim is survived by an extended family, including the children from his first marriage, Deborah (Darion, Shayn), Marnie (Mehmet, Zehray), Rick (Vera); and Laurie (Warren, Heather). He met his wife Judith and her daughter Jill (Brad, Linden, Brooklyn, Carter), and his family grew to include Catherine (Ryan, Sasha, Alexis). Jim is also survived by his sister Isabel, numerous cousins, friends and colleagues. James was born on January 4, 1936, in Unity, Saskatchewan to James Anderson and Barbara Ethel Anderson (nee Dickson). He played hockey, and later, became a coach, teacher and administrator at Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, Alberta. During that time, he served on City Council for six years. Jim joined the Alberta School Trustees Association in 1975, and later was an administrator and teacher at various schools in St. Albert, Alberta. After retiring, in 1991, Jim moved with his family to Vancouver. Jim was known as an educator, practiced tai chi and played duplicate bridge, obtaining life master status in 1985. His love for family was ever-present – being together at dinners, parties and cruises were his happiest times. He loved football, theatre, opera, cigars, and his dogs. He will be missed. Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life service will be held at the West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016.
