Here it is, the year 2025. I'm 77 years old and watch GUNSMOKE every night before bedtime. So, I was just a little thing when the show aired. Matt Dillon and all the regular characters on the show still mean a lot to me. Yes, James Aurness was an example to me of what a good man stood for. I had lost my own father when I was only 15 months old (a good man by all accounts) and my mom married a not so good man when I was 9. This man, on and off screen, to me, stood for what was right. God bless.

I was too young to watch Gunsmoke black and white episodes and only got to watch some of the color ones. I rediscovered Gunsmoke thanks to some tv channels. I am now addicted and watch whenever I can. I ended up buying you autobiography I loved your character of Matt Dillon and what he stood for. After reading your book I have so much more respect for you. You were such an amazing man I wish I could have met you. May you RIP. Thank you for all you have given us. Say hello to my husband for me. He will be the one asking you a million questions.

You have been my hero for over 60 years. I started watching Gunsmoke as a child and continue even to this day. I knew when I was young if I ever had a son, his name would be Matt, and I got that wish. The world needs more James Arness's and Marshall Dillons. You set an example, both personally and professionally, of an honorable man.

With the upcoming anniversary of your homecoming, I'd just like to tell you, Jim Arness, that you're more alive today in our hearts and home than ever before. We always choose to watch Gunsmoke over any other show or movie on television. You always displayed fairness and equality as Dodge City's Marshall. There will never be another Matt Dillion and you will forever live on. I can see you, Doc, Chester, Festus, Ms. Kitty, Sam and Quinn sitting around the table in Heaven reminiscing about the Gunsmoke days. Miss you all! Thank you for for all you've contributed. It will never be forgotten or go unnoticed.

Your impact on American culture and morality, James Arness, cannot be overstated. Dillon inevitably did the right thing, no matter how difficult, as did his Gunsmoke cohorts. It is a shame we seldom see such revered, engertaining, and solid role models for young people in 2021. It's just possible Gunsmoke contributed strongly to holding our families and young people to the right path up until 1975 (series' end) and well beyond. Today, such characters w clarity of ethical thought are seldom at the forefront of entertainment programming. You made a very big difference in our country's overall fiber as well as making a huge contribution to entertainment and interest in the 1800's wild west. When you really look at it, few actors have accomplished more. Rest in peace and thank you. We still watch your show frequently, and probably will for a while.

RIP, Matt Dillon you will never be forgotten. Not a day goes by we don't watch at least 3 episodes of Gunsmoke. You were a gentle giant who always fought for fairness. Wished we had more Marshall's like you. You, sir, set the bar high. ❤

I worked at LAX in the gift shop and tried to keep up with Mr. Arness walking out to the gates where I worked in Duty free. He was dress with deck shoes and khaki pants and the beat was not a cowboy hat but beach hat. The memory will always be with me. I still watch your movies and think about you. God bless your family and comfort them still now.

He was part of my life growing up watching all the old westerns with my family! My mother and I would watch Gunsmoke every Monday night while my daddy was in the road. He was a truck driver. He was also one of my two favorite cowboys that I loved. I went to Dodge City, Kansas in August of 2018 and saw the statue of him! Loved it!
