I was fortunate enough to become friends with Jim during our Philmont years and always enjoyed the times that we were able to spend together there. We were able to reconnect many years later when he visited the beaches of the National Seashore in Massachusetts a few times during the summer and stayed with me. Jim was a true class act and I know that he will be missed by his many friends. Godspeed on your next adventure.

I first meet Jim at Philmont Scout Ranch in 1985. It was my third year at the ranch and first working at the Logistics Center. Jim was the manager of the newly built Logistics Building. I have the fondest memories of him. Always positive and encouraging of his staff...always giving us chances to expand our roles. I know that I used him as a role model when I became a library manager in the years to come. He was a wonderful mentor and inspiration to everyone at Philmont. God Bless you Jim. -June "Engel" Frost.

Surely too young to have left this life. I recall Jim from my years working as a Ranger at Philmont - 1981 and 1982. Didn't know or recall that he also was from NC. But, I see he caught the Philmont fever and settled in NM, as many fellow Philstaffers have

I was a scout leader for Troop 506 at Central Methodist Church in Asheboro, NC in the early 1970's. I saw Jim begin as a tenderfoot and was proud to see him receive the Eagle Scout Badge, and later, the bronze palm. We shared a number of outings along the way including a hike on the Appalachian Trail. Keep on scouting, Jim.

I preceded Jim by two years as Stu Rose´s law clerk, and worked with and against him in bankruptcy cases unti I was able to retire. He was truly one of the best, extremely knowledgeable and effective. Unflappable, although I think I once saw him angry about a case. I can´t believe he´s gone so soon.

Jim and I were rangers years ago at Philmont and here´s a pic of us both. Although we both lived in ALBUQUERQUE and I saw him every now and again he seemed to be a solitary man.. I am saddened as by his passing, And thankful that we were lucky enough to have grown up at Philmont! You were truly Treasured.

I met Jim my first year on staff at Philmont as a Ranger in 1980. We encountered each other numerous times in the ensuing years through mutual acquaintances. He was a good guy who led a fruitful & adventurous life, & always in Class A uniform when working at Philmont. It gets your attention when someone a year younger passes without warning. I´m glad to have known him.

Jim and I were in the same typing class in high school and often ate lunch together. He once took.me to a wolfpack basketball game even though I was a tarheel fan! I remember him as a quiet soul with kind eyes who loved the outdoors. My prayers are with the family.

I´m so sorry to hear about your brother Joe. Karl loved Philmont. I have a coffee cup from there. I pray blessings upon you and the family. May you find peace in the Lord during this time.
