Dear Maggie, Nate and Brandon, I was very sad to hear of Jim's passing. He was a fine man and a wonderful example for the people he came in contact with. I first met Jim about 20 years ago thru Johnsburg baseball. We served on the youth league board together for many years. We would always see each other around town and Jim always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. Never heard him say a bad word about anyone. He just wanted to make the community/world a better place. AND HE DID!
God Bless.

My wife Jane's "Uncle Jim" was quite the character. His puns and jokes were notoriously of the "groaner" variety, but he never failed to make you smile. Always a prankster, while playing cards or board games he would hold the winning cards in his hand, intentionally not playing them just to see how long he could keep the game going. He could strike up a conversation with anyone at anytime--and usually did--and in the process make them feel like they were the most interesting person in the room. One of his favorite past-times was officiating at ball games, which was how he met Maggie, his sweet wife. Officiating was such an important part of his life that at the conclusion of his memorial service his friends and family sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" while the church organist played the tune in a very traditional "ball park" style, after which the officiating pastor yelled "play ball." This up-beat and non-traditional ending fit both the occasion and the man himself. He will be missed.

We are very saddened by Jim's passing. He officiated games for three of our four kids over the span of 15-18 years. The most recent being this past July for softball. He always had time to catch up on our kid's sports lives outside of Johnsburg. The ball fields or courts will never be the same without him.

I was very saddened to hear of the news of Jim's passing. I considered him a genuine, kind, very friendly man who always had a good word for anyone he came into contact with. I always enjoyed seeing when he came around JHS to cheer on his kids athletic events or just to convince me to consider his insurance offers. Jim will be very much missed.

I am so very sorry to hear the news. Mr. Ayers was an amazing man who really touched the lives of so many young people. I umpired for Mr. Ayers and also played soccer with Nate. You could always tell he really enjoyed his family and extended that joy onto the many ball fields he spent time in. My deepest condolences to the Ayers family.
