James R. Barnes Jr., age 84. Born November 2, 1928 and died February 25, 2013. He served in the Army from September 19, 1945 to February of 1947; he reenlisted in the 11th Airborne Paratroopers until he was discharged in January 1950. He retired after 37 years from Stauffer Chemical; he spent the next 20 years as a realtor for Barnes Real Estate. Preceded in death by parents, Jim and Elsie Barnes; brother, Billy Barnes. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Olivia H. Barnes; children, Lydia Reed (Lynn), Anne Smith, James Daniel Barnes (Geri), Edward Gerard Barnes (Tanya) and Martin Wayman Barnes; grandchildren, Eric Reed, Edward G. Barnes Jr., Bobby Barnes, James Daniel Barnes Jr., Graeme Reed, Logan Reed, Katy Williams, Natalie Balaskey, Sara and Mason Sargeant; great grandchildren, Chelsea and Marissa Barnes, Sarah Reed, Charlie Barnes and Camden Bell. The family wishes to thank the nurses at Suncrest Home Nursing and Alive Hospice-St. Thomas Hospital. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013 at West Harpeth Funeral Home with The Rev. Philip Breen officiating. Interment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ; St. Anne's Church; or Alive Hospice-St. Thomas Hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, 11 a.m. until time of service at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME, 6962 Charlotte Pike, (615) 352-9400
