Dear Gail, What can a people say that has not been said already, Jim was a friend, a Veteran Brother and the best damn horse trainer I've honestly ever known. He also served as an inspiration to those who aspire to be horse persons, his qualities and personality are what greatness of human grace are made of. All man with the warmth of love, compassion, dignity, rounded off with a little hard headedness and grit made up this wonderful human being that I am proud to have called my friend. God bless you and lighten your heart with joyous memories of the wonderful man that you shared with the rest of us. Thank you!

We are so sorry we could not travel to Tennessee for the funeral. Although we were not there physically, we were there in spirit. Jim did so much for our family and words cannot express the pain we feel. God will keep him in His tender hands.

A prayer answered through your words

January 3, 2010

Dearest Buck,
I have attended many funerals Roger's was by far one of the most thought out, full of life tributes in celebration of the way he lived with passion. It was touching, wrapped in love and very well organized with a passion of your own. You Did an Outstanding job. The apple does not fall far from the tree. You are no less than a messenger sent from God for this family. With Rogers help, a miracle happened before our eyes.A family divided was reunited, if only to show their love. You honored your father, grandparent's, Mother,Sister,Yourself And family member's and everyone that attended. I can not tell you how many people you brought to tears and laughter. and I don't know what you do for a living but but writing is one of your strong points. I guess you inherited that from your Mother's father. Thank you for enlightening us. Your Father is smiling from ear to ear.

In Memory Of Roger
A country Reunion, homespun Melody
Of brothers and sisters in Harmony
Remember a true treasure
of a life well lived is the lightest of a hearts measure
Chiseled handsome looks that will not fade,
You were self-made
With only your wife, family, parents, and God to Thank
For the accomplishments and superb rank
You were more than your humble attitude,
You gave of yourself to a tremendous multitude
Where you felt the most comfortable in the saddle
Or in the mist of battle
Whether it be Gwantomo or Quantico
In the Streets of Spain or Abingdon on Main
You were always yourself, I’ve been told
Many a young men were yours to mold
Precious memories you have placed in our hearts to hold
Gail was the beauty of your life
She shared your charmed years as your loving wife
You loved his children, and grandchildren and wanted only the best
Knowing all the time life is just a test

Denim faded overalls; a small bare footed boy skips rocks across a river dreaming of his future as a Marine. Being born during a war played a role in his life. Whether it be climbing apple trees just before canning time. Or riding the milk cow home down the middle of Jamison Street. One of sixteen children life was a struggle but he made the best of it with his antics and laughter. Life flies and Sixty Seven years have come and gone in the blink of an eye. A man before his own time he had an insight even as a young boy. From his humble begins to the self made man he became. He never strayed and held tightly to the strict values of his raising and they served him well. Mere words can never describe a Man of such towering Esteem Here’s to Major James Barrett. His parents were so proud of his accomplishments, emotionally and spiritually. After all what we take with us, is in the heart and the spirit. His perception on life and the people around him was admirable. His assumption was of great value for EYERYONE no matter where you came from, and all Gods creatures. He is and was a testament to Our Heaven Father of the treasure of a life well lived. I never ever heard him talk harsh or in bad humor of anyone. He did not judge and knew that was God’s place. His bravery for his country and family are a mark of his significance. The humor is probably a staple of his meager raising and the past time spent amusing each other in simpler but closer time in a large loving family. His one-man shows brought the curtains down most every night to a raving applause of laughter. Family gathering had him found among a crowd, the center of attention. The fearless way he lived and loved life to the fullest. I am in awe at the remarkable singing voice that could easily move mountains or bring a grown man to his knees. The Passion for animals, the kind and caring ways he treated everyone and everything. Strong hands that so compassionately trained and broke horses. He molded many men that may never know the values he instilled in them. But our Country is a better place because of him. I am honored to have known and loved him dearly. I just wish I had told him so. I remember under the cigar tree, and him on the front porch with a guitar. Precious moments. I will be praying for ministering angels to soothe your breaking hearts and ease each of you during this time of trail and loss. Uncle Roger will be sadly missed by one and all and
Momentously embraced………at the Pearly Gates.

Gail, Wendy and Buck. I was so sorry to get the news. Uncle Roger was a person full of light and laughter...and it was infectious. I have a fond memory of the long weekend I spent at the Stables and your home where Uncle Roger let me drive the tractor and turn hay. As a girl, I had never been allowed to do it before. He gave me a few quick riding lessons and was so helpful and kind. Charles was staying there as well and I remember being impressed at what great care he was treated, as if he was Roger's father. He was, in short, a good person that touched many lives. Your whole family will be in my prayers and thoughts.

I fondly remember from our days at Greendale High School. He was full of life and lived life with a passion. He usually was involved in something or another and on occasion he was some what controversial. Roger was a great American and we are better for his life
