JAMES F. (JACK) BERLY, JR., 86, a native of Houston, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003. He was born February 2, 1917 to Annie and J.F. Berly, Sr. He attended San Jacinto High School and graduated from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio. Mr. Berly was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 62 years, Bettie Jean, and their beloved daughter, Janice Berly Odiorne. Survivors include his sons, James F. Berly, III and wife, Gretchen, and B. Thomas Berly; grandchildren, Melissa Purcell, Laurie Stevens, Kristin Berly, Lance Odiorne, and Brett Berly; and eight great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 10, 2003 in the chapel of The Settegast-Kopf Co. with Rev. Dr. Robert M. Poteet officiating. Private interment will follow.

Jimmy and Tom,

A voice from the past to offer sincere condolences in your grief..I always looked up to your Dad when we were kids...thought he was the best around our West U. neighborhood! Long time no see, but pleasant memories endure through the years. Thinking of you and all your descendants in this sad time.

I remember Jack as a loving and committed father, husband, friend, and neighbor. My young life was richer because of my relationship with Jack and the family he nurtured.

Jack was a wonderful and warm person - those sparkly smiling eyes of his were a trademark only God could have made. As the daughter of West U neighbors, I remember him fondly along with Betty and the family. I am saddened by his passing, but delighted by his graduation! Regards to the family.
