James Bogenrief Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2025.
James Herbert Bogenrief, known affectionately as Jim, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 89 in Fort Myers, FL. Born October 24, 1935 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, he grew up to be a gentle and hard-working man of strong character who dedicated his life to his family.

Jim graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA and served honorably in the Army. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Patricia (Trish), and married on June 11, 1959. They relocated to California to begin their 66 years of married life and start a family. Jim completed his degree at San Jose State University.

Professionally, Jim had a successful career as a chemist, with expertise in the area of water chemistry for the engineering and management design of power generation plants worldwide. He was known for applying his meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving skills to his work, which was much appreciated by his colleagues and peers in California, Michigan, and Illinois.

A man of many interests, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling the country by RV, and especially dancing with Trish. Jim and Trish spent many years enjoying summers in northern Minnesota and snow-birding in FL with friends who became like family. These moments, whether by Deer Lake, time in RV parks, or at gatherings with friends and family, were where he found his greatest joy and relaxation. He was always ready to share a story or lend a helping hand. Known for his gentle, hard-working, and affectionate nature, Jim was not only a great father and husband but also a cherished friend to many. His ability to solve problems was only matched by his capacity for love and care.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Trish; son, Todd (Amy); daughter, Linn Dooley; grandchildren, Ashley (Phil) Sgambelluri, Ally, and Adam (Alex); great-grandchildren, Fiona and Felix Sgambelluri; sister, Kathy North; brother-in-law, Tom (Sandy) Pardun, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ola (nee McCormick), as well as his siblings Gene, Mary, Ray, and Veronica.

Jim's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his passion for his hobbies, and his dedication to his work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind memories filled with love and admiration.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5pm on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Cypress Woods RV Resort, 5551 Luckett Rd, Ft. Myers, FL 33905.

I always had a great respect for Jim both for the kind of man he was and also his intelligence. I still to this day hold both Jim and Trish some of the nicest and caring people I have ever crossed paths with. He also took on a father roll for my beautiful daughter Ashley at a time in my life that I was not able to be a father. He taught her great morals, integrity, respect and Ambition and for that I am eternally grateful. He was an outstanding grandpa as well and was a huge part of her life and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. 89 years is good long long life and he didnt have to spend any of it suffering and he is looking down on all he loves. Can´t ask for much more than that. Unfortunately They don´t make many people like Jim anymore. I will never forget you Jim!

Sincerely,
Joel Dooley and family

What a blessing to have called Jim our friend! We have only known he and Trish for three years, but every time we were with them, it left a lasting impression. Jim and Trish's "how we met" story is my favorite one of anyone I have ever met. My husband and I will miss Jim and do our best to help Trish as long as we're nearby. May God bless his soul.
