James Walker Boyce

James "Jim" Walker Boyce passed away on March 9, 2025. Beloved husband of Joanne (Liddell) and loving father of Sarah (John Thompson). He was 73 years old.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 27, 1951, he was the only child of James W. Boyce, Sr. and Marta Stanich. He moved from Indianapolis to Redford Township, Michigan in 1959 and spent the rest of his life in the Metro Detroit area. For 20 years, he worked for AM General and contributed to the company's production of the Humvee in the 1980s and 1990s. He went on to do home interior remodeling and construction, including stained glass windows and mosaic tile installation.

Jim's love for his family was everything to him. He met his soulmate, Joanne, at Thurston High School in Redford, and they were married in 1975. Jim and Joanne built a wonderful life together, and were devoted to one another. On July 5, 2025, they would be married for 50 years. Jim was also a proud and loving father, who encouraged his daughter in all her academic and artistic projects. His support, guidance, and humor provided comfort through periods of difficulty and in times of celebration.

Over the years, Jim pursued a variety of interests with enthusiasm and dedication. In his youth, he enjoyed photography, music, camping, and riding his motorcycle. Later on in life, he poured himself into his artistic endeavors. Jim had a boundless, creative spirit. He was a skilled artist and craftsman, working with materials like wood and tile, but especially with glass. His stained glass work is displayed in the homes of family, friends, and clients in Michigan and throughout the country.

Jim's faith was central to his life, and he rests now with the Lord. He is deeply loved and missed by his wife and daughter. Jim touched the lives of his brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He lives on in the memories of extended family and friends. A private memorial will be held by the family.
