James Bradley, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 3, 2024.
James Cornelius Bradley, Jr. (Jim) was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2024. Born August 31, 1934 in Tarboro, NC to James Cornelius and Elizabeth Hoggard Bradley, he was the oldest of three. He was predeceased by a younger sister, Mary Bradley Whitley and a younger brother, John Roger Bradley.

Jim lost his beloved wife of 66 years, "Tiny" Riley Bradley, in September of 2022. He has since resided at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Durham.

Jim attended high school in Goldsboro, NC followed by Oak Ridge Military Academy in Oak Ridge, NC. He served in the U.S. Army and the N.C. National Guard. Ending his military duties, Jim and Tiny settled in Wilson, NC where he worked alongside his Dad at Tobacco City Motors, the Ford dealership in town. He continued his career in the car business with a move to Raleigh, NC with Automobile Dealer Resources, then a move to Durham, NC as the car dealer of Bradley Lincoln Mercury followed by years of service with the Chrysler Corp. prior to his retirement.

Jim had two favorite pastimes...his die hard love and support of the UNC Tar Heels, attending or watching every game and his love of the game of golf, to play and watch.

Jim is survived by his daughter Susan Bradley Petry (husband, Doug) of Washington NC, son James William Bradley "Bill" of Chapel Hill, son Robert Michael Bradley "Mike" (wife, Janet) of Holly Springs. Grandchildren, Brad Makepeace (wife Kelly) of Washington, Paul Makepeace and Chris Makepeace of Raleigh, Eric Bradley (wife, Mady) of Jacksonville and Lauren Bradley of Raleigh; Great-grandchildren Shelby Makepeace, Evan Makepeace and Aubrey Makepeace. Last but not least, grand dog, Millie.

A service for family and friends will be held in the Memorial Garden at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham on Friday, October 11th at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the student-athletes NIL fund at UNC-Chapel Hill.

My favorite memories of Jimmy are of him, Tiny, and us, the Percise´s going to UNC football games. He and my dad were big fans and hated DUKE. Jimmy and Tiny stopped at our house every time they came to Wilson and we loved it. Loved them so much. Sending love and hugs to Susan, Mike and Bill.
Our folks are in heaven together at last.
Love you,
From the Percise´s
