I knew James for 18 years through A Gathering of Men, of which we were both members. Seeing James arrive was always uplifting. His wit, intelligence and sincere, caring nature were always welcome. He was a brilliant conversationalist with wide-ranging knowledge on many subjects. After his diagnosis, he shared bluntly and openly with us about the journey, and inspired us by his determination to live every moment of the time remaining to him, especially through his amazing feats of cycling! James is already deeply missed, and will continue to be fondly and lovingly remembered by all of us. I'll be seeing you soon enough, brother

James was on our team of 5 that did the 2023 Seattle to Portland 2-day ride (STP). He was impressively strong on that ride. A sweet guy.

The American Lung Association and Reach the Beach WA would like to express our appreciation of all of the efforts and support received from Jim. His joy of riding and leadership on our volunteer committee elevated our event and contributed to saving lives. Even during his diagnosis, Jim was constant in his smile and support. He will be missed.

Jim was a great guy. I worked with him for 7 years at Milgard. He always kept a smile on my face especially when he didn't like something. That was when he was the funniest. Jim lent a shoulder when I lost my daughter and for that I will forever be grateful. In his honor, I will continue to donate to the Seattle to Portland Bike Ride.

Thanks Jim. You will be missed.

My family and I first got to know Jim and Jill through our daughters Laura. We'd occasionally go out to dinner together which allowed me some 1:1 time with Jim, while Jill chatted with the girls. Jim was always a bit more reserved than his wife, but very thoughtful, considerate and patient. I recall, in his later years how he picked up cycling and used to religiously track his rides on Strava, which I thought was cool, as he wasn't a 20 something anymore. But he loved it, and completed the STP just a couple years ago. Bravo. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love through his 4 children, whom I'm sure already miss his presence.
